Hi,
I am wondering if anybody can help!!
I lost my job on the 31/08/2010 due to funding being cut. Therefore on the 01.09.2010 I signed on for contrubution job seekers allowance. I received a letter yesterday though saying that I was not entitled to this as during the tax year 2007 - 2008 I didn't earn enough National Insurance as I was studying for PGCE teaching course.
I was then told I was not entitled to income assessed job seekers because I live with my boyfriend. However he is on minimum wage and he can barely afford his bills already.
Can anybody help me as I have NO money as my boyfriend has no money to share and I feel terrible asking for pocket money off my boyfriend!!
Thanks x

The law says a couple need £102 a week to live on. That excludes debts.
I assume your bf earns more than this hence the decision. Sorry.

Could you not sign up with some agencies for supply work? You should be able to earn more than a weeks JSA in a day.Gone ... or have I?0

Yeah i have joined agencies but as its the beginning of the term there is no work! Also schools didn't start back until the 8th September so seeing as I have worked full time for the past two years I thought I would get money for the time when I couldn't get any work.0

CB JSA considers tax years 07/08 and 08/09, not the past two years.Gone ... or have I?0 -

Plenty of us did work during our studies. You can moan about it all you want, but it will not change the fact that you are not entitled. However, you can still sign on for NI Credits.Gone ... or have I?0 -

What advice would you like? I've been there, but I didn't sit and moan about it, I went and found a job. It was your choice not to work during your studies, you had the opportunity to do so. Hindsight is a wonderful thing!Gone ... or have I?0 -
oh my god are you really that stupid dmg24!! i will explain again that I got paid from the government when doing teacher training!! I am not sitting around i have applied for jobs however just incase you are from a different planet its been the Summer holidays!!! I think its unfair that somebody like me that works and i lose my job i can t get anything from goverment where as somebody who has NEVER worked can!! Surely thats not fair!! Yes hindsight is a wonderful thing - I suppose you are perfect!! well done you!!0

laura, it depends what you think the purpose of the system is, whether it is fair. "To be equal to everyone" - well, clearly it isn't and is not going to be.
Good luck in your job hunting. Do sign on in the meantime so you get the NI credits.Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0
