We have Heinz, bought loads recently cos they're only £1 for four. Haven't tried Branston, but didn't like Branston spaghetti, kids complained it tasted horrible!
Shame we haven't got any amnesty's near us, but then we never get anything down here on the South Coast! There's no Wilkinsons nearby, No Primark, and no Ikea!I Believe in saving money!!!:T

"Boycott Heinz"? And buy Branston instead?
Branston is one of the many brands owned by Nestle. As UNICEF has said:
"Marketing practices that undermine breastfeeding are potentially hazardous wherever they are pursued: in the developing world, WHO estimates that some 1.5 million children die each year because they are not adequately breastfed. These facts are not in dispute."
See: http://www.babymilkaction.org/pages/boycott.html about boycotting Nestle where you will see these words
"Nestlé is targeted with the boycott because monitoring conducted by the International Baby Food Action Network (IBFAN) finds it to be responsible for more violations of the World Health Assembly marketing requirements for baby foods than any other company (see the codewatch section for profiles of the different companies to target their malpractice"
Nestle's actions cause deaths. Boycott Nestle.0 -
I didn't know that Branston was made by Nestle so thanks for that.
This probably isn't the thread to go on about boycotting Nestle though as it is about Heinz and this particular promotion.0 -
If someone in this thread recommends a Branston (Nestle) product as an alternative to Heinz it seems on topic to deal with why I'd not buy Branston...no?
You will see "newbie" there on the left. Veteran's advice and suggestions welcome.0 -
On the BBC Midlands news they had a story about it
and Heinz were quoted that it is only going to be one tins of beans per person
(whether that means a family of five would be able to do one tin each, is open to question)
I wouldn't eat their beans anyway (don't like the sauce), and thanks to previous posters i will not be buying anything Branston ever again (unless some other company buys them off Nestle)Debt of £6300 cleared in 5 years, now ZERO0 -
Branston is not owned by Nestle.
It is part of premier foods, a company listed in its own right on the UK stock exchange.

The local news in Birmingham has announced today that Heinz has pulled out of the promotion at Solihull due to pressure from people in the area (as a result of lost jobs at the HP Sauce factory).
Don't waste your time and petrol going to Touchwood to exchange your beans - they won't be there!0 -
Great news that they won't be showing up in Touchwood!
I think this is one of the most cack-handed attempts at marketing I've seen for a while and hopefully Heinz will match the tins they dump with a corresponding stock donation to a homeless charity or some such.
I'm a fussy sod, but am quite happy with my 16p Aldi beans or Sainsburys own-brand and haven't bought anything else for years.
Why don't folks just buy 2 own-brands tins, instead of buying one tin of Heinz, and then give the other tin to a Harvest Festival collection etc.
Little change to yourself, someone else in need benefits and Heinz gets zilch! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Oh dear, Heinz-sight is a wonderful thing.... :rotfl:We're all pawns in the game of life!!0
