Have you thought about checking out some other heritage paint type suppliers? My boyfriend and I recently did a table & chairs up shabby chic style and we used paint known as '1889' - it looks great, comes in loads of similar colours to F&B and is 1/3 of the price! Ours came from the big orange diy store!
1889 is B&Qs own paint range. I bought a tin to paint my kitchen doors and it had curdled. No amount of stirring would rectify it so I took it back and got a refund I wouldn't bother again but maybe I was just unlucky.
  • sorry peeps, me again lol

just wondering what sandpaper to get?

    TIA

Wow, what a shame! It sounds like you were unlucky. Our paint was very good and is holding up very well after 1.5 months with regular use as it's a table & chairs (although we waxed the tabletop). I'm sure that paint separation is normal though (but curdling isn't), so having it shaken at the shop and testing before use is definitely a really good idea.
:A Thanks to all the lovely people who contribute their advice! :A
  • Well, the wardrobe from freecycle was gorgeous (taken a photo, will show you all later!) but it won't fit up the stairs :(

  • hello everyone
just discovered you all and looks like the very thing i need. Never done much at all with furniture before so i must be a 'shabby virgin' lol.

i have just inherited some pine furniture and want to updated it. i have a wardrobe, chest of drawers, blanket box, single bed and also a welsh style dresser and table with 2 chairs. thinking of doing the kitchen stuff creamish and possibly black for the bedroom stuff cos its going in my teenage sons room. (but may chicken out of that one and do it cream too. !!! not my taste). so lots to keep me busy.

hart44- when you do your squares for the quilts do you do them with the wadding stuff on the back of each square or do you wadd the lot in one go when its finished? sorry i have never done a quilt and always wanted to and your pics have inspired me. how big are your individual squares?

thanks for listening and know i will be back reading and taking notes from you all.

Hi fluffy, I get a mixed pack of sandpaper so I have the right one to hand. The coarse paper is for getting the worst of paint/varnish off and I use the fine inbetween paint coats just to give the next coat something to cling to :)
Hope I have been some help and hopefully someone will be able to give you a bit more advice :D

It's had a first coat of primer already :D was thinking of putting it on ebay to try and fund buying a flatpack  (going to go wash my mouth out with soap!).

Was hoping to get another coat on today but spent last night/this morning being sick so feeling really rough today :(

Hi and welcome :D I sew all my squares together 1st then put my wadding and backing fabric on after.

    This link should help :D
My 1st attempt at putting wadding on a quilt was a bit of a faff as I ended up putting it inside the top and backing (like a duvet) but after googleing and reading all I could find I now have it sussed :rotfl:
    It is addictive though :rotfl:
