  • Ive bought a Victorian terrace house and it has the original fire place in the living room. Someone has painted it white and removed the hearth and made a new one with dodgy tiles. Im hoping to restore it to its former glory. How would I remove the paint though with out causing anydamage?

Thanks (not sure if this counts as shabby chic)

Fluffybunny - I've not got any full pics at the moment (and typically DD1's taken my camera and hidden it in her "pit of dispair" ;) This one shows the top to give you an idea. I used an electric sander on all the big bits and a small flexi-sanding block for the rest. HTH

What would you experienced chics advise? sand it?

I'm thinking F&B dimity for the top coat but not sure what to do for the underneath. I'd like it all in dimity apart from the top of the bottom bit (if you know what i mean)

I'm shabby chic virgin, this is my first go!

I love this dresser :D Im gutted as I saw an identical on in my local CS for £30 but I wasn't sure about it but I changed my mind and went back next day only to see a sold sign on it :( oh well that will teach me :o
I look forward to seeing it done :D

I am doing another patchwork quilt but work is getting in the way and it's going slower than I would like but here's what Ive done so far

I only had a few of the green and yellow squares so decided to put them with the white (it has tiny flowers on it) and then stick to one colour edges. I have a vintage yellow and white stripe sheet for the backing.
I have been collecting pretty pink and blue flower fabric for a real shabby chic quilt next :D
Getting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a time :) and Love sewing :)
