  • I'm well happy. I have found in my mums shed what will be a beuatiful cream antique bureux! At the moment its electric blue from where my dad painted it back in the 70s lol. Its about a hundred years old and belonged to my great great grandad. It will be so nice to give it some tlc and it will be perfect in my bedroom.
I went for an insperational wonder in Laura Ashley earlier and have fell in love with some wall paper called summer palace. I think it will be making pride of place on my chimney breast in my lounge.
I have now finished priming my nans cupboard and will buy the paint for it tomorrow. Its a laura ashley paint, but cant remember the name oops lol.

I've got that in my bedroom! I love it. It's a feature wall behind my bed with a small alcove lined in it just near the window. I keep going into Laura Ashley drooling over a jade colour silk fabric, sort of embroidered self pattern. I'm hoping it will be substantially reduced so I can cover my headboard with it but no sign yet:(. I thought of buying Summer Palace fabric but I thought it would be too much as it's quite busy.

What are you planning to do with the bureau?

Im going to strip it down and paint it cream and line the inside with some nice paper. I will take a pic once ive dragged it out of mums shed which I hope to find time today. I am studying herbal medicine and have a vulgar desk in my room the only place I can find peace with 4 children so it will replace that. The vulgar desk is a prooer artists desk that I found in a skip so what I sell it for will more than cover the costs of paint ect yay lol.

The wall paper us gorgous isn't it. I was tempted to save for the curtains but like you said I think it would be too busy.

  • I bought the same wallpaper for DDs room but I think I got carried away because I bought the wallpaper for the whole room and then the curtains. When they arrived I realised what I'd done so had to use the curtains in the other DDs room.

can you tell me if you do something like a cupboard that has removable shelves, when you paint the outside do you paint the inside and the shelves too please.

or would you leave them as they are

If it was a cupboard that someone else might see inside I would take the shelves out and put pretty wallpaper on the inside, paint the shelves to match the outside and out back. I have done this with a bookcase and a corner unit and they look realy lovely, which reminds me I should post the photo of the bookcase!

I went to Poundland and bought some of the car spray paint, they only had white. It's great. I sprayed a glass vase and two coat hooks (also purchased in poundland - originally untreated wood with brass hooks) and am really pleased with the results. I wasn't sure if it would work on glass but it worked a treat. Unfortunately I managed to drop said vase whilst I was holding in admiring my handiwork :(

I really would recommend a trip to poundland, I was at the Glasgow Fort one and they had tins of that international tile paint and melanine paintt. I can remember buying the tile paint in b and q and it was at least £10. They never had a great variety of colours. I got some duck egg blue melamine paint but they had blue, yellow and cream tile paint.
I also got small tins of radiator enamel paint in white (not sure the make but look expensive). They also had paint brushes that b and q used to sell - decent quality ones and lots of other diy stuff (sandpaper, paint roller and tray, small roller with edger).
