Aah, this thread (along with a much needed sunny day) has kicked my lazy bum into gear....

I went to a boot sale today for the first time in over 6 months and scored some treats.

Most fabulous was a full, unopened 2.5l tin of Farrow and Ball Oil Eggshell in New White for £8!!! It was over £40 a tin last year when they still sold oil eggshell in the shops :)

In order to put it into good use I bought a huge wall mirror with a slighty scuffed wooden frame for £10 and a pair of newish wooden bedside lamps for £1 each. I found an online tutorial for covering lampshades last week and bought 1/2m of raw silk for £5 at a fabric shop on the way home to make some pretty new shades.

I also bought a metal 'telephone table' (how quaint!) which I will spray paint and use as a plant stand on the patio. And a couple of wooden planters for 20p which I will also spray paint.

What do you all think? :)

Sounds as though you've found a few treasures. Hope you'll post before and after piccies.

    Sue

    Thanks Sue.

I will take the 'befores' today while taking my photos for my free ebay listings.

Don't know when I will get round to the 'afters' as I have a long line of half finished projects around the house :D

I am currently trying to finish a vintage display cabinet that I bought 2 years ago and a shaker style rocking chair that I bought 3 years ago..... I just need a good weather forecast of 2 -3 fine days in a row and I will be off!

If I can get some £land spray paint I may be able to post some small projects up soon though.... :T

:o Such a lovely thing to say, thank you. I had a good haul at the jumble sales yesterday, will put some pics on my blog later on. I really need to get my bum in gear a la annie-c and get my sideboard undercoated...the only excuse I've had so far is not having found the right screwdriver to take the doors off

Just a reminder that this weekend is free to list on ebay - which means that lots of shabby household things will come onto ebay for collection-only by sellers who want rid via free listings but want a little bit more than 99p for them.

I always find it worth a look for bulky items like wall mirrors, cabinets, chairs etc. You can usually pick up a bargain or two for £5ish....

A question for seasoned spray painters. Up to now the cheapest spray paint I have bought is Rustoleum brand on Amazon at £5.49 delivered. I have also paid £8 a tin for Plastikote at B & Q. I was a bit frustrated by the cost as a tin doesn't go very far, and I noticed by following my favourite bloggers, that a lot of American shabby chicers are getting spray paint for $1 or less at Walmart or the Dollar store. I have done a bit of sleuthing and found that Poundland does white, black and silver gloss spray paint at...(surprise!) £1! but it is in the car section. Is there any reason this can't be used for small furniture makeovers... like photoframes, knobs and handles and lamps etc? I think this is the same or similar stuff that American bloggers are using.

What do you all think? :)

I have used car paint to spray paint furniture - I did a wooden standard lamp purple some years ago, an old wok red to use as a pot pourri container and a couple of other things. Basically it seems to work on wooden or metal items. The only rookie error I made early on was spraying too close and getting a couple of drips. If you can set up out side on newspaper or an old sheet -even better if you can make a corner to work in by hanging a couple of sheets or something - then you will avoid hideous fumes and getting paint on other stuff but watch out for drift caused by wind.

Sounds exciting Danemi. I know that B&Q still have that paper as I got a sample last week! I've been busy trying to finish some of the projects I started last year. I just got a lovely duvet cover from Very. They have some pretty ones in their Sale, and TK Maxx had some Cath Kidston last week not cheap but greatly reduced.

[img][/img]http://i.ebayimg.com/21/!CEsfs,QBGk~$(KGrHqYOKjgE0dTfB+V5BNStJVmTgQ~~0_3.JPG/I loved that paper - we have one complete wall with fitted wooden wardrobes (cost us a bomb - handmade and hand stained - if he knew I had even contemplated painting and distressing them well lets just say they wouldnt be the only things distressed - ha ha) anyway wood all along one wall well nearly two really as the units come across two with the bed on one of them and then they carry around onto another wall but as drawers not wardobes and there is a mirror on there and then on the remaining wall theres is a window so - not that much wall space - I wonder if that paper would look good on the parts that we could see of if it would just need to be a feature wall if I found a quilt to complement or if to say stuff it on go spotty everywhere - ha ha - love it so much

No, I don't know the name. It was floral but not pretty, more funky flowers, in brighter colours than I like and I think the print was largeish too, maybe cerise, browns yellows and greens. I have a feeling that they were about £25 for a double down from £75.

Can't get the ebay link to open up but might just be my very slow computer.

I am thinking about buying one of the above. I have a lot of stuff to spray and this would be cheaper than buying new furniture or indeed buying numerous cans of Plasticote.
