My husband has made me a cupboard come desk in the alcove in the living room. This is my space for studying.

I'm on with my chair at the minute. A carboot pick up. I am wanting to decorate my space with a shabby chic style theme but I don't know what that really is when it comes to a desk. What would I put my pens in? Shabby chic style files. What would they look like? Creams whites etc? The lamp has to stay and is brass. That's not shabby chic though is it? See I don't know what I'm doing but i would like it to look pretty. My house is 1930's beiges, browns and creams. My archway (I know!!) has small 'ceiling roses' attached to the woodwork. It's pretty and a bit quaint here so a modern work space just would look silly.
Anything you can suggest to help would be fantastic.
are you into papercrafting if so you could use scrapbook paper and cover old gravy granuels pots ive decorated them and they look good.
i would use double sided tape to stick the paper to the pot and if you have any mod podge give it a coat of that for protection you can also add a ribbon round the top.
alternatively use fabric and do the same although fabric may not need the mod podge0 -

But at £80 no chance, in the sale the king size was reduced to £50 but when I clicked on to it on the website the KS was priced at £30 same as single. So I ordered it, and two days later it arrived really chuffed :j. I think the price was a mistake but at least I grabbed myself a bargain.
Me too!!! Its gorgeous isn't it? Even more so at that price! xIf music be the food of love then play on"No matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow". ღ ~Maya AngelouDoing it for my kids. For a better secure life. x0 -
Sorry to interrupt...Im looking for a link to a downloadable "Keep calm and carry on" print out which someone put a link to on one of the threads i regularly lurk, now i cant remember which thread it was in and cant find it in search.....can anyone remember where it is or does anyone have the link to it?
Very grateful for your help ladies (and gents of course)
PS this request may also be on other threads you use....so sorry for the repetitiveness
Have PM'd you as I made one of these myself to give to a friend for Christmas. It prints onto A4 and you can change the wording/background colour to suit. Looked brilliant in a shabby white frame.
If anyone else would like me to email them with it (it's a Word doc), please PM and I'll be happy to.0 -
I've just read the entire thread and I can't wait to get started. I've just won this on Ebay so it's going to be my first project.
I've wanted a bureau for ages so I couldn't believe my luck when I won this one.
I'll be back for advice no doubt once I've picked it up ;-)0 -
Fabulous bureau domestic goddess!!!
I love the glass side cabinets too, a substantial piece...and what a price!! I look forward to seeing what you do with it.
No decorating over the holidays...too cold and no room.
DS1 is back at Uni so we can do some painting in his room, but what we really need to do this weekend is sort my 8'x10' shed so that we can get into it, so much has been chucked in there!! It's where I tend to do my furniture painting...though it is really my crafts workshop...or at least will be sometime!
DH and DS2 are picking up a lovely display cabinet from a friend on Sunday. It is oak and will go well in our sitting room (oak furniture and oak beams). I won't be painting it as it is lovely as it is.
Our old display cabinet is another matter however. I got it years ago when I swapped a fold-down bed for it. It is pine, stained green and not very great. It needs new battens to hold in the glass, and deeper shelve to make it more useful. DH thinks we are getting rid of it...but I think I can squeeze it into the kitchen, if not, it's heading for my shed, I hope!). Either way it will be being painted cream (well, Barley White), a vast improvement on it's present appearance.
I will post piccies once I find the camera.
Hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year...despite the snow!

My sister sent me this link with some lovely patterns. Would look great as shabby projects in shabby fabrics.

Have you looked on your local freegle/freecycle for chairs? Depending on the style of table you've got you could always paint them to match. What's your table like?0 -
Evening all, here is the dresser I painted. Excuse the look of the room but I am in the process of redecorating it - first thing is to paint the horrible walls
Oh no, I have tied over and over again, I just don't know how to post a photo.0
