Cacran this is the varnish I use. It has virtually no colour to it, although I don't use brilliant white paint, I prefer a slight cream tinge, partly because all my disgusting aged gloss woodwork would look even more not white.

Thanks to Pipkin and Chalkysoil-those are ideal and I shall investigate further.

I have a 'dustbin style' kitchen bin like the dunelm one but in cream. It was from next so not cheap at £40. They have 2 sizes.

Love the table Jumblejack and great idea with the spoons. Might have to 'alter' my newly purchased storage chair as we currently just dump the keys on it...

Ikea do a version of these in various colours, they are cheaper but about half the size.

I'm using 1980's smallish plastic bins poked in a corner as what with recycling etc the rubbish is getting complicated!

Thanks, unfortunately I'm miles from an Ikea (wish they did online shopping). I was hoping to find a normal galvanised dustbin and paint it myself, but they all seem to be 90 litres! I even quite like the look and shape on basic incinerators (I have strange tastes)-I think they'd look great painted, but again, they're rather large.

The ikea bin is available online - not sure about the postage/delivery.

  • Have only just stumbled into this thread. Wow you are all so clever. The items you have transformed are amazing. I may even start a small project in a few months if my house purchase goes through. I will be back with questions though. Well done just love looking at the photos.

Not strange at all, I like them too..there's a definite beauty in industrial looking stuff in an unexpected setting imo xxx

I didn't know where to ask so though the amazing people on this thread may beable to help!!

I am hoping to do some basic wooden wall shelves for my sons bedroom, and am wanting to apply paper to them (if I can find what I`m looking for!)

I`ve seen similar for sale on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Marvel-Comic-Covers-Shelves-With-Wall-Brackets-Only-3-Shelves-Left-/261453795723?pt=UK_Bedroom_Furniture&hash=item3cdfdc518b

What should I use to apply the paper?
