Ok, so the dressing table is finished! Had a horrible time with the first lot of paint, ended up sanding it down and starting again with a slightly darker colour. The knobs are lovely, worth every penny (£8 each)!
    Here's hoping these photos work!

  • Camelot101 - I like the colour that you have painted this. Where did you get the knobs from? They look like they are in keeping with the piece.

    Hi everyone. Lovely makes. :T
I wonder if you could help me please. I had a mirror with a gold colour frame. I sanded the frame down and put masking tape on the mirror. I then painted it and left it to dry. Gave it another coat and left it to dry. When I took the masking tape off some of the paint came off too.
Is there any way I can salvage it please? Should I just touch the paintwork up or do I need to take it all off and start again?
    Many thanks in anticipation.

  • masking tape is better peeled off, when the paint is still tacky. When this has happened to me, I use a tiny brush and touch it up, as if you are waxing over with a darker wax, you can cover any tiny lines left by infill.

Thank you, I shall get a finer brush and touch up the paint. :)

if I paint mirrors with chalk paint, I don't bother with masking tape. I just clean any paint off with a toothpick before waxing or varnishing.

I am currently trying to upcycle an old wooden tv cupboard into a baby's wardrobe. I have stripped off the old gloss paint that someone covered it in, sanded it all down, cleaned it, and started to paint with white emulsion.
I'm really struggling to paint without brush strokes. It's driving me mad. I've done 2 coats so far and have brush strokes showing. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
I have noticed that the paint seems a bit thick and seemed to be sticky when I was painting it on.

I've had gloss like that but never emulsion - make sure the paint is really dry between each coat. A very very light sandpapering will get rid of some of the brush strokes. Try applying most of it with a small roller, and think about watering the paint down a tiny bit, maybe decant some and experiment.
    good luck
