Thank you!
Renovating the chair for babies nursery - so cue hormonal crying yesterday when I thought I had ruined it! So glad it can be saved and hopefully my first project won't be a complete failure!Expecting Baby No 1 - 20/06/14 - Team Yellow!0 -
Chalk paint is really easy to sandpaper off before wax is applied ( though dusty - try and do it outside)
Don't panic, all will be well. I practiced on shelves before I started on furniture. You may need to do a few coats of the paint before you wax, unless you want very distressed shabby look. I find that on two coats of home made CP, when the wax goes on - bald patches appear! I've been doing 4 coats on very visible surfaces and 3 on semi hidden bits lately.
On picture frames I bung in some extra P of P to thicken it up.0 -
Anyone tried this? Just curious.

I am quite excited..
A few weeks ago we were served notice as the landlord wants to move back into our house himself. Since then we have been frantically looking for a new place to live.
We live in a 4 bed detached house at the moment but there are only 2 of us so it's a bit overkill to say the least. We have found a new property and it's a 2 bed Victorian terrace.
The reason I am excited is that these little houses are perfect for the shabby chic look, so I get to do a nice makeover on the whole house! We need new sofas etc as the old ones are too big so perfect opportunity to create a nice 'style' for the house.
Anyone have interesting sofas they can share?
Found a few I like at DFS:

But they are certainly not frugal!!!
Thanks,

I was drooling over this one: http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/271410034075?nav=WATCHING_ENDED
It has ended now but I adored it.
Why not check out eBay? Even if they aren't local, the money you will save would pay for van hire or pay a 'man with a van'.
Even more exciting than buying new and you will get a lot more for your money.
I like the last one best on your list but I would be afraid to use it in case it got spoiled

Hi Kevin, This is what I have done, as hopefully through time and experience I would also like a sofa very similar to the ones you like. I bought an old nursing chair of gumtree, stripped it back, taking photo's along the way. Keep the old material and using it as a template, you can buy patches of material of ebay. I have never been to an upholstery or sewing class. Just take your time, try and use strong material as chairs and sofas gets a lot of wear and tear.
Start small even doing dining room chairs with seat pads first to see how you get on.
I have just bought a wing back chair for £20 of gumtree and going to attempt that next in patchwork.

Thanks Louise and jumblejack.
I guess I was attracted to the DFS ones because of the option of paying 4 years interest free as we don't have a large pot of money to buy sofas with. Having said that, we are selling our current ones so could use the money from that!

I recently purchased a sideboard/cupboard off eBay and it cost £67 to transport it 140 miles using anyvan.com who I would definitely use again. HthNothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task. William James0
