I am so carp at photos. What I did, for no especial reason, was one coat of gesso, one coat of ascp cream, one thick coat of Asda pva, one coat of ascp old white, rubbed in some as clear wax. May have a fiddle with it tomorrow when the wax is set.

That's such an improvement. Very pretty. I think I made the same mistake with the pva!

if anyone is after vintage kitchen storage in the Bristol area this might be just the thing, and it's being sold by a great charity!

You could use chalk paint if you like working with it. You could also use a specific melamine paint which would give you a much flatter look and won't need any further protection. I take it they are melamine? Or you could use a super-primer and an eggshell but I think a melamine paint would be easiest as it's a one step process.:)
I was thinking of using the home made chalk paint because of cost plus I like the look. Running out of cash with all the expense of the renovations.

My kitchen is coming along very slowly - had the workmen here 3 weeks now. However the standard of work is extremely high. I will post photos of the completed kitchen - who knows when that will be!
Re - running out of £ after spending on the renovations. I want storage in my kitchen cupboards - there are lots of pretty tins about but that is the pricey way.
I do have a lot of tins - about - 15 - new - that I bought ages ago - proper storage tins but with a coffee bean design all over them. I would like to pretty them up for my new kitchen - anyone - tell me how please?

You could spray then with car paint (often at £1 shops and similar) or paint them with specialist metal paint (more expensive) or you could decoupage and varnish them or PVA them

Thanks, I'm thinking a few pots of flowers and maybe some bunting will finish it off (although I think the hubs may put a stop to the bunting lol)

Just measured my kitchen window for a blind. It is wider than fabrics measure - do I add a panel each side?
