Can you spray light fittings with paint? Is it safe to do so and how would I do it? I've got a light fitting that I bought ages ago for dd's room but she doesn't like the finish and I thought it would be better painted white.

    Hi

I had a light brown metal light fitting, the type that is about a 5 inch circle of metal that is attached to ceiling over the wire, and 5 curved upward pieces of metal come out and the 5 bulb holders face the ceiling................not sure if that is an accurate description or not!!!
Anyway it was a horrible colour, and I spayed it with a tin of white car paint-available at car accessory/spare shops, and it looks 150% nicer, and much more classy.

I did it outside on a non-windy day, and you have to be careful you don't get runs in the paint, so a few light coats are better than spraying too much at once.

It's been on the ceiling in my dining area for about 12 months-no problems.

    Hope that helps.

I got the homemaker sub 3 for £6 a while ago and cancelled after the 3 (although this month I rec'd a 4th!). It's not really bad, each month came with a little craft project (this month was a wood bird cut out, some sticky back paper and a hook to screw to it, one month was a garish piece of fabric to make into a bird hanger) none of which I have completed as I haven't liked the look of any of them, but the parts have been added to my craft baskets for use in something else later. It also comes with a booklet of printed paper for papercraft - I don't do anything with paper really, so again it's been kept but with no real use in mind.

The projects inside are ok, but not earthshattering. There are a couple of recipes, but nothing I felt inspired to make. There are 'artist profile' type articles.

All in all I felt I wasted the £6 so certainly didn't want to continue with the sub, but obviously other people will feel differently. :)

Thanks - I won't bother with it. I do have a subscription to - Style at Home - special offer price - of course. That mag has good recipes.

I like Style at Home - I love the recipes and I find ideas that I can tune to my own tastes in there, and it's a magazine I can pick up and put down when I fancy browsing - something I think Homemaker is lacking.

Februarycat, here's a list of stockists. Looks interesting but I haven't seen it although will probably buy when I do see it.
