Not the best pic ever, but the sheer unadulterated joy when I finished making these blinds was......I haven't tried these before and can honestly say that two days of sewing was worth it. I used the guide on channel 4 and the fabric and lining is from the original normal curtains which were shabby in a bad way! I used a can of starch after washing all fabric on 60 to allow for shrinkage. The bits and bobs cost around £38.00. The first raising to see if it had worked was like the virgin voyage of the titanic.

They look great - did you line them with blackout fabric? Where did you get the bits and bobs please?

I bought them from my local curtain making store. However, I would imagine that you can get them cheaper from ebay. I bought the batons 1 x 2 from B&Q, also the dowelling. Used self adhesive prickly Velcro 1 inch on the batons. I will also staple gun this, belt and braces. The soft Velcro on the blinds is sew on. Then you need rings and cord.

I have to honest at this stage and say that the man in the shop said that they no longer make roman blinds like this. They use the kits with the bobbly strings now. These are cheap enough from the likes of Terry's fabrics etc. I just wanted to do it the old fashioned way, which as usual is cheaper! HTH's. if I can do it, anyone can. You do need a table for cutting plus a mat. If you are going to try this as a beginner, I would suggest a fabric with stripes or a continual pattern. I am really pleased with them. The lining is just very thin lining from my original curtains, which I bought in a sale.

They were floor length, but too good a bargain, so I bought and took them up from the top leaving the professional seam at the bottom. Those curtains have really paid for themselves! Sorry for babbling!!!

    Mrs Crafty,

I really want to make some roman blinds for my house but Ive never done it before. Only made simple curtains in the distant past. How easy is it for a beginner do you think?

Hehe, I don't! I can always find something to paint to avoid housework.

I'm late to the party but I've finally updated a pinterest board and figured out how to verify it to my site too. What a palava!

I sold both pieces on ebay, which given the time they took isn't the best money-making venture, however I did enjoy doing them and will probably keep my next projects for myself!

Wow! Fabulous blinds Mrs Crafty! I've never been brave enough to try blinds! Made to measure blinds would cost you a fortune!
Love the corner cabinet, the little grey drawers Cazo! Is that decoupage on the front?
The bench is gorgeous Jenny, I have the same waiting to be painted! And the chair looks great too.
