I've gone and done it! I've made my own chalk paint!

I picked up a writing bureau from Freecycle a couple of weeks ago and I plan to use it to stash all my craft materials in to keep them off the floor in the lounge. It's probably 1950s so not really ornate but nice and functional.

I've used Dulux Almond White to paint it with, and I got a roll of beautiful wallpaper in the clearance section at Homebase (£5, reduced from £18.99) which I am going to paper the inside with.

There will be before and after pics but for now, I am quite pleased with the first coat.

The only problem is that I am supposed to be working this weekend so am now behind with my proper job.

    Oops!

    Look forward to seeing photos.

I can't remember the paint prices from yesterday so don't know which is the most expensive - AS, F&B or 1829.

From recent memory, B&Q sell 2.5l 1829 chalk emulsion for ~£23 and 750ml acrylic eggshell for ~£12, and I *think* Homebase sell F&B eggshell for ~£20/750ml...beyond that I wouldn't like to say as my memory is a bit carp ;-)

Thank you SO much for this post - really helps me. I would have to get a handyman to do the mouldings. There is a chap at Church who does some joinery work. Any idea how much the mouldings cost per door?

I think it worked out at around £30 a door but do shop around for the mouldings as prices vary! Choose the straightest and the ones with least knots.
You so do not need a handy man! Just draw the panels on your doors, working out from the centre line and check you'll be happy with that layout. Then lay your moulding on your pencil line, mark the cuts and the direction of the angles. Cut with a little adjustable mitre saw. (I do one end, then remeasure for the other end.) A streak of glue and some teeny panel pins, a dampcloth to wipe off the squeezed out glue and you're ready to caulk, prime and paint.
I can send you the dimensions of the panels I used if you like. :)

Blast! Not able to carry on with my chalk painting frenzy for the moment. Slipped and fell down seven or eight stairs at home this morning and hurt my back and arm. Will have to rest up for a few days now. Do you think someone is trying to tell me something, at my age (61)?

Hi Whitesatin, sorry to hear about your fall. I've fallen when I've been trying to hurry (I'm 64) so guess the thing to try and remember is to take things a bit gently and definitely don't rush on stairs. Hope you recover quickly so you can get back to your painting! Best wishes from Liverpool.

    Ouch!
Have you had yourself checked over?
    Wishing you a speedy recovery.

This weekend I have upcycled a little cupboard but haven't yet done the 'after' picture.

Not a big project. It was done in half a day.

In between and after though, I also crocheted ANOTHER bag.
I wanted one in the colours of my funky woolly leggings as no bags match them.

    This is it:

Ill post the cupboard pics ASAP. Just waiting for it to get bright and sunny to enable a proper picture. :)

Did you use as is - or in your chalk paint mix?

    Both!

I used it as an undercoat for the bedroom mirror so that the colour would come through in places when I sanded over the top coats of old English white.

I also used it in a chalk paint for a ceramic vase.

I've also tweaked my latest handled bag too:

Just to let you know that, following my fall downstairs, I have, surprisingly, woken up today with not too many aches and pains. I will take it easy for a few days though, just in case. Thanks for your concern and best wishes. x
