Aw we dont have a Wilkos near us, not sure they are in Scotland. Im still working away in my office. Ive painted the two units and waxed them. I then ran out of ASCP in Old white so I made my own.
I did order Plaster of paris from Amazon but it didnt arrive in time so I bought some B&Q Plaster repair powder, mixed white emulsion with some F&B testers of Bone and Hardwick white and got the right shade of Old white. Its slightly rougher to the touch when dry but looks just as great as ASCP when waxed.
I decided on the sideboard to roller the first coat on with small foam roller then I used a paintbrush on 2nd coat, Im happier with this result than 2 coats with a brush.
I still cant post my pics yet. Hopefull I will have enough posts when the room is finished.

Hi I have just found this thread and loving your creations..I was just wondering..I have some old conservatory furniture that I was going to do away with but now I'm having second thoughts. Do you think I would be able to re-paint it. If so What type of paint would be best. The chairs are great but just a bit dated now. I could easily get them recovered but just not sure if they could be repainted. I assume they are just varnished wicker.
Many thanks in advance for your advice!0 -
I'm a newbie to restoration. There are many more experienced clever peeps in here.
I have had masses of success with chalk paint! I have painted baskets, ceramics, wooden frames, and all my furniture with the stuff but made made my own.
It is just .5 cup plaster of Paris dissolved in .5 cup of hot water. Then add 1.5 cups of any good water based paint.
It is INCREDIBLE stuff and sticks like glue to ANYTHING! Even plastics!:A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A

Depending on the style of chairs it may be easier to spray paint then."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0

I have a very large (4ft x 2ft) gilt framed mirror in my dining room. It doesn't match the room so I plan to make some homemade chalk paint and upcycle the frame.
Now, do I paint it completely and leave it a flat colour, or do I distress it once painted and let some of the gilt show through? I don't mind the gilt, it's just too much for the room as it is. So if I go for distressed, I guess I need to rub a candle over it first so that I can get some of the 'stick to everything' paint off again afterwards.
Or does anyone have any other suggestions? I'll post 'before' pics of the frame tomorrow when I've got the mirror down off the wall.
