0012vg.jpgThis was meant to be before and after but they have all gone higgeldy piggeldy! This was home made chalk paint as an undercoat and emulsion tester pots as a top coat. No sanding before painting.

    That's so beautiful!!!!!

Love the mirror and frames around it too!

    Very pretty:)

Hi I have a small stool, brown wood legs , faded red rush type seat. Im thinking of painting the wood with some left over cream Annie Sloan paint. I would like to do the rush seat brown. What can I use for this? Thanks

Thanks, chalky soil. It is a bit of a chore uploading pics!!!

Ive managed to get them on hopefully.

I have done another wee project today and tonight and that is distressing the mirror in the above pics. I wanted a wood applique but couldnt find one when shopping around. As I am impatient, I decided to go ahead without one.

I will try and upload the pics in a mo.....

    :)

I have spent the afternoon and part of the evening on my second practice project.
My bedroom mirror is now fittingly shabby chic'd in the same old English white eggshell and a colour matched (to the wallpaper) 1829 chalky emulsion beneath.

Lots of lessons learnt hopefully for bigger projects. (I have earmarked a few things that I would like to do after being pointed in the general direction on Pinterest and here!!)

It took hours to sand. That eggshell stuff is pretty hard to rub off. I've sat watching iplayer documentaries whilst sanding away.

Hmm, wood dye? Then it would look like rush and not get clogged up with like it would if you used paint. Depends on the type of rush as to whether it will take the dye. Try a patch underneath?
And don't do the chalk paint til after because wood dye splashes and drips EVERYWHERE!

Jumblejack; That wardrobe looks great! I love the wallpaper on it!

IT took 1 1/2 pots to do 2 coats, however the plastic inserts on the anedoda wardrobe need 4 coats!

I'm not sure what I did wrong with waxing but I can do that over time even with stuff in them.

Kept me out of mischief for a couple of days. :-D

Wow! I never knew you could paint those! We have the same wardrobes in the little bedroom.

    Well done!!!!

Hope you don't mind me posting this but I just want a bit of advice.

I have a very ramshackle bookcase on the landing upstairs. It is hand made and is not very impressive. There are big gaping gaps. It was waxed at some point in the past.

Will ordinary wood filler suffice and will sugar soap be enough to prep it for a Craig and rose chalky emulsion base coat with a Dulux period old English white eggshell as a top coat for distressing?

    Thanks in advance.

Any advice would be great as I'm taking everything off the bookcase now to start on it ;)

    Edit:
Aargh. It never works on a phone for some reason.
It is the most recent pic on here:

I will manually put it on later when the kids are booted off the computer.
