I had a chalk paint day today. I decided to quickly paint a little wine table in AS Provence, as I'd already undercoated it I thought it would be a quick job. Alas and alack, 5 minutes in to it I realised the tin had developed a hole in it and was leaking a lot down the side seam
I'd got paint on me, the pine cubby hole unit I was using as a work bench , 3 rolls of xmas wrapping paper that was stored undeneath and loads of tut that was in the cubby. I quickly put my finger over the hole and leaned over for some blue tac, thus spilling even more paint all over the laminate flooring.
Spent the next few hours painting anything not screwed down in Provence to save wasting it, including the pine cubby that had a lot spilled on it.Cazo1:wave:0 -
Just thought I'd report back on how my mirror went- it is brill! I am so happy with it. The AS paint is lovely to work with, and the wax good too.(I've never used wax before.) If I could put up a photo I would, but it is above my capabilities. I'm now on to my next project- the cupboard i originally brought the paint for!
Thanks for your advice and inspiration.
Another chalk paint addict :j! Glad your mirror turned out well!Cazo1:wave:0 -
Need advice on annie Sloan paint. Am painting a bedside table, but despite two coats it still rubs off easily. Have got wax too, but putting wax on seems to dilute the paint. What am I doing wrong?Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Has anyone ever decoupaged wicker boxes ?
If so how did they turn out ?0 -

Hi, Did you sugar soap the bedside table first? If there was any spray polish/wax polish/grease on the item then the paint would not adhere correctly. Or is it a naturally oily wood like teak?
The wax goes over dry paint and shouldn't dilute it. It will darken the colour slightly.
Hope this helps!0 -

I haven't tried it, but watched tutorials on youtube and plan to have a go at it soon...some of the finished creations look amazing as the wicker adds a texture to the decoupage.Cazo1:wave:0 -

I've chalk painted waxed pine, plastic, laminate, glass, any old crap, and seldom if ever, prepared or washed any of it. When the paint is dry I wax it with a brush and at least 12 hours later, buff the wax with a cloth. Or sometimes I use varnish on the chalk paint.
The only thing I've noticed is on a waxed dresser, that it's self distressing around the drawer edges where tiny bits are flaking off, but I don't mind that.
The chalk paint will give off a tiny bit of chalk when rubbed before waxing. Sometimes the waxing shows up places where the paint wasn't as thick as in other places.
How are you getting on?0 -
Gosh, I LOVE LOVE LOVE this thread!!!!
I got a link from a fellow friend of Martin who inspired me with her dressing table project.
I will be keeping my eye on the thread for more inspiration. It rocks!
Last night I finished upcycling my wardrobes. Never thought I would dare have a bash but so glad I gave it a go.
It was like this, all dark and oppressive and we wanted to get new ones that wouldn't clash with our new colour scheme:

The paint was Dulux period eggshell in old English white and the doors were papered in a chrysanthemum textured wallpaper and painted over to match:

I'm absolutely thrilled and have officially caught the bug!
