I saw the knobs on Amazon but there was only one review which said they were terrible quality, and I think the Bombay Duck ones were more expensive.

On checking the Homebase website I found that they sold a 6-pack of the knobs for £17.99, so I found them instore & bought them yesterday (I had a 10% off voucher too). Have just gone to put them on but the screws are too long. They're the ones where you can cut them shorter at various intervals so will get OH to do that, only problem being we don't have a saw so that's another thing I'll have to get (or find shorter screws).

I put the handles on to see how it looks though; pretty pleased with my first project!

That is stunning...I love it! :T

    Thanks all :j

Going to take the screws to work tomorrow where hopefully someone will have a saw/snips and shorten them for me if I ask nicely. Then I can start emptying my old drawers into it at the weekend.

Going to pop into Store 21 too as they had a lovely cream wire vanity mirror which will go nicely on top (they also have some lovely hooks, pretty bins and birdcages in the same style if that's your sort of thing).

Some of the pieces I've been working on over the last two weeks, have very old ornate brass handles which have been a nightmare to get brightened up...then I had a eureka moment and decided to try a flexible sanding block on them....an AMAZING result!! Shine in seconds!

Seakay - I asked the seller if it would fit in my small car, and where exactly they lived as I wouldn't want to drive far with the boot half-open. They responded saying they lived about half a mile away and it fit in their estate car no problem, so they offered to bring it round for a couple of extra pounds - well worth it![/QUOTE]

Thanks for the info - just goes to show that honest enquiry can result in mutual benefit! They sold their item and didn't lose out on fuel costs, you got the item you wanted. Obvious commonsense but very encouraging to know!

Hi everyone, I am looking for some advice. I have some old melamine fitted wardrobes that I will replace at some point but I just don't have the money yet. But I would like to renovate them if I can. I will replace the sink and worktop and thought I might try painting the wardrobes-you can see from the pics that the majority of the surface area is mirror.I've had a quick look on the internet and a lot of places recommend special melamine paint, but I would really like the shabby chic look from chalk paint. Has anyone painted wardrobes (melamine) in it and if so do you have any advice for me? I've attached a couple of pics and will also post the button pics I've been making, not totally shabby chic but they are cute and very easy and cheap to make!
