I saw a 1950's one on Ebay for £50 but it was very small.

Bibbity, I agree with your OH. If you have loved something for so long and you have a commission then you should treat yourself. After all we sometimes have to work to LIVE and that sometimes means treating yourself for the hard work. Go on, go for it, you will always love it and if you ever get fed up of it you can always sell it on. LA stuff goes well on ebay.

i was just going to say this!

we save money here, there, everywhere and every now and then you just have to just treat yourself :)

That's the one way I've been justifying it to myself! These have been out a few years and still manage to sell very close to new price. I think I'm pretty much convinced now, thanks all :D glad the pic inspired you too jtz!

This is the fireplace we have bought...do you think it will look alright? We'll have a different surround though, probably something dimity painted :o I'm going shabby chic still, but more of a 'posh' shabby chic I think...less florals (much to the OH's joy!).

Well we're in the process of clearing out the kitchen...units off the wall, fridge and contents of units now in my living room  my OH and Dad are just removing the cooker and moving it into the living room now so I'm officially cooker-less for the next few days. I can't wait to see the final thing but oh boy, does it seem a long way off!

    Lovely work lajoni!

Oi cherisong, hands off, I got there first (well, second, but who's counting...) :D definitely agree we need photos please Bebs!

Do you have any photos of the wallpaper in your old house hun? Would love to see it in situ.

I'm also seriously tempted by the Constellation mirror...I've been eyeing it up for a couple of years now and an extortionate amount of freelance work has just paid up...do I treat myself or not?! It seems such a silly price to pay for a mirror (I've been spoiled with car boots and ebay I think!!), but it will be an amazing statement and will travel with me to all future houses. Look how lovely it looks against the wallpaper *sigh*

I also love that mirror!!!! I would love one!!!

Thank you, any particular spray?:o Also, do I need to sand it down first?

or, use a brush with emulsion, but well watered down and do lots of thin coats rather than one or two thick coats. I read that from someone else a while ago. :)

ooh I love the shape of that and I rather like it the way it is. It depends on the surroundings you put it in, whether or not it would look good painted.

you bad girl tempting me. Where is your home page then?

Can I put links in here to my blog shop?....

I love that Constellation mirror, I'm like you BB and very rarely spend much on items, much rather source them from CS, CB or Ebay but last year I saw a gorgeous gilt over mantle mirror on Ebay and I joined in the bidding and won it for £104 which was extortionate for me and only felt better when the children said they would buy it for my birthday :o

I bought a dresser off Ebay a while back and it was dark green gloss with decoupaged doors.... but I persisted with the sanding and painted it in a very cheap magnolia emulsion and distressed it back to within an inch of its life....then polished it ....for many it will be sanded back too much but I love it that way and did a gentlemans wardrobe the same and have them both in the bathroom...the wardrobe I took out the rail and put in 4 full width shelves to hold my sheets, d covers and towels...not everyones taste as many will probably think they could do with a couple of coats of paint :rotfl:

It doesn't look like this now as Ive got glass perfume bottles on it and the toothbrushes and mugs in a cupboards as its a pet hate of mine not liking to see toothbrushes on show....enjoyed giving it a makeover though

i think that would look lovely, is your whole ground floor going to be open plan, kitchen, living, dining? It sounds like you are in for a hectic few days.
