can someone tell me of the best way to clean/degrease a pine cupboard , I have been given the bottom half of a dresser I want to paint/decoupage the top as it very marked . The rest of it just needs a good clean and all the grease removing, any regular household prooducts that you can recommend??
TIA*****

Sugar Soap is good. It's often used to clean walls woodwork before painting etc so you might already have some.0 -
I've been chalk painting an old stool. Weird blue spots are appearing - like tiny ink splots. And an occasional red one. They can be brushed out but reappear.
I think it's something in the varnish that was on it as the raw wood on the underneath hasn't done it.
And some carved indian wood has turned the cream paint streaky pink :rotfl:
Apart from that it's going well0 -
Uh oh! Thats because the stain in the wood and possible grease/ paint spots are coming through. You'd really need a stain stopping primer to seal them first. That's bad luck to have 2 things affected. I'm currently using Blackfriars problem solving primer on my problem pantry shelves and that would be good.0

too late now - 2 coats of chalk paint & 2 of wax ... no one is likely to peer closely at a brown wax over cream distressed plant table so I'm not worried.
Went to Sandwich and bought another two tins of chalk paint today0 -

Hi everyone - lurker un-lurking here! Have re done lots of old bits of furniture, as soon as I can get laptop fired up and re connected to Internet will post some pics. Chalkysoil the reason I quoted you is you must be local to me - sandwich is only 15 mins away from me, if you don't mind sharing, could you tell me where you got the chalk paint from there? Have been looking to get some for ages, but didn't want to pay high p & p costs online
Thanks - have a lovely weekend everyone!0 -
Called to Homebase last night, bought some Sanctuary range paint, which has muted colours similar to Laura Ashley (OK not as much choice) but their eggshell paints are nice for wooden furniture
