    Good morning shabby chic'ers

I often lurk here and have seen the lovely things that you all do, your posts have inspired me and I bought an old wooden round side table at my local church furniture sale this morning. It has a round top with a leather look insert which is starting to come away at the side and is red with a gold pattern on it, i would like to cover this in some way but am not sure how to, I dont think that I could just paint over it as it is quite marked with ridges in it and small bits missing at the side. Any ideas? I plan to paint it cream and would have liked to have the top either cream or light brown.

    Thanks

    Sue

I have to say the chalk paint is starting to "give" a little on the garden furniture due to the rain - I never got around to vanishing it. But as it was a test on scraggy old stuff that was fit for the bin, its not a problem.

I think on furniture I may get the proper stuff, but I have 2 wardrobes, a chest of drawers and 2 bedside cabinets, so it might be a bit costly. However, they are the Aneboda range with the plasticy glass inserts. Would the paint stick to this or would material stuck to the inside be a better bet?

Finally got my old pine mirror painted and up on the wall in my hall - I did it in Annie Sloan old white plus a coat of clear wax over

The mirror looks beautiful against your stunning papered wall.

I love wallpaper but hubby doesn't. It's not that he can't hang it or is lazy, he just likes plain and I like more elaborate decor :D

It wouldn't do if we're all alike, they say opposites attract.

Hoping someone might have some good ideas.

I have THIS horrible cheap desk from Argos (it was a lot cheaper than that when I bought it three or four years ago). I would love to turn it into something more interesting, but as we are hoping to buy a house in the next few months I am on a very tight budget.

It's made of that melamine type stuff so I'm not sure how easy it would be to paint? I was thinking I would like to cover the top with something like an old map and varnish it, but would it be hard wearing enough? And I can't find anything on ebay that would be big enough (120cm x 49cm). Also I'd like to change the knobs but nice ones seem very expensive, has anyone tried decoupaging knobs?

Any ideas for giving my nasty old desk a makeover would be very welcome :)

I've been painting melamine cd units with paint made for melamine. All good so far. I got the paint for £1 but it's nearer £20 in B&Q.

I painted a melamine wardrobe with primer and satin "gloss" paint about 5 years ago - still looks ok despite hubbies best efforts. Also did a drawer unit which is under my desk and that's starting to get a bit chippy along the edges, proper shabby now!

We've bought a lot of furniture in charity shops and occasionally ebay local pickup.
