Been having a think. I reckon if I made curtains and used lightweight lining tape for simple gathers, I could stitch plastic curtain rings ( smallish) to the tape on the wrong side of the curtain out of sight. Then put onto thinish dowel, prop it up on little hooks - bingo. The curtains might then pull back. Actually, that white telescopic stuff might be better as smoother and more slidey than wood. Will see what is in shed first. OH never throws anything away. Will have a go after hols. :D

Emma sorry to hear about pot hole, but mirrors look amazin.:j
I've got curtains over a gap in my kitchen. I bought some net rods (cheap from Boyes or Dunelm Mill but most curtain shops sell them), it's rigid, you screw the hooks that come with it underneath the worktop and slot the rod on. I made the curtains out of bits of lightweight material I had left, just make a large open ended hem at the top and slide the rod through. The curtains move back and forward easily on the rod.

  • Good morning shabby chic'ers

I often lurk here and have seen the lovely things that you all do, your posts have inspired me and I bought an old wooden round side table at my local church furniture sale this morning. It has a round top with a leather look insert which is starting to come away at the side and is red with a gold pattern on it, i would like to cover this in some way but am not sure how to, I dont think that I could just paint over it as it is quite marked with ridges in it and small bits missing at the side. Any ideas? I plan to paint it cream and would have liked to have the top either cream or light brown.

    Thanks

Wow, what a difference the paint makes, you've spurred me on to paint a gloomy dark wood dresser, it's in a room that doesn't get much sun, so I'm sure it'll look much better in cream, by the way did you remove the doors when you painted it?

Hi no didnt remove the doors. I only paid £29 for the unit from TK maxx, it was reduced as a couple of tiny marks on it. Ive put 2 coats of beeswax on since.

My home is sooooo 1980's, reproduction furniture etc. I can not justify throwing out our dining table, chairs, sideboard and the obligatory corner cabinet. I bet you've got the picture now. Well the room needs an overhaul!

I would like your help after seeing some of your fab furniture makeovers. Have you ever painted a whole set of furniture? I would like a more chic look rather than shabby, would all one colour be too much? I can change seat upholstery myself and other soft furnishings and really need a fresh look, please help.

If you have any pictures you can post of a similar project I would be so greatful if you would post them on this site. Saying that I wouldn't have a clue how to do it :rotfl:

    Thank you in advance,

    Pj
