OK, so I have been doing some more nosing around the thread and it seems that the Annie Sloan paint is the way forward. Can anyone tell me which colour is best......Original, or Old White?
I'm after an ivory.....not full on creamy cream but warmer than pure white.
Thank you!

I love this thread, it's so inspiring!
I am going to paint the bedside chests and dressing table in our room. All our furniture is pine, but a nice waxed pine not the orangey stuff. My plan is to paint the drawers but leave the tops and handles pine. Then the wardrobes will remain pine but I'll just add ceramic handles so it's co-ordinated mix and match.
Can I just check that the following is the right way to go about it...
Sand
Undercoat
Paint
Varnsih
I'm not going for a distressed finish.
And, what would you recommend - Laura Ashley paint or F&B??
Many thanks
Rae
You don't need to sand all the old finish off just provide a 'key' for the new paint to adhere to. ie. scuff it up.
Primer! Be wary of oil based undercoat if you plan to paint with emulsion ( water based!) I would just use quick dry primer.
Paint: depends on your colour prefernce if you like those sludgy F&B colours or the pastel Laura Ashley ones.
Varnish or wax to protect the paint. Oil based varnishes may discolour over time but are tougher. You can choose matt, silk or gloss depending on your taste. Happy painting!0 -
Also Rae, you can use gloss paint which takes longer to dry but doesn't need waxing or varnishing. That's what Cath Kidston uses for her chairs etc and it looks great.0

Hi
Painted the garden furniture with my chalk paint solution
here's before
here's after
the aren't used to sit on and only used as plant stands so if it washes off in the rain it isn't a problem. Perhaps some clear varnish?0 -
it looks fab! I'm all inspired again. I've painted one little table in chalk paint then got sidetracked away from our garden stuff.
I'm starting to collect shabby chic etc pictures of gardens & back yards on pinterest.
The man in the shop ( did I say this before I'm a tad senile lol) told me not to wax garden furniture after chalk painting ( because of the sun) Then I asked if I could do my front door he suggested clear matt varnishing it after the paint.0 -
ps I love the blobs of paint on the ground - I have masses of shingle and areas of it are weird colours where I've spray painted outside on it, but I like it!0

I did put paper down! I'm one of those people who can make a mess and get covered from head to toe in paint by walking past an unopened tin. however, I need to jeyes fluid that whole area cos it gets mossy and not much sunlight.0 -
