chalk paint, some of the blogs mention unsanded grout, I have water resistant grout mix in the shed, and some old emulsion, could I use this?
I was thinking of painting a couple of old roses tins to match the kitchen.0 -

I have a space under my stairs! No spare room for an office so i was thinking of using this space BUT am struggling to find a computer desk (shabby chic of course!).
I tried googling 'understairs office space' and a few ideas came up. What about something built in (shelves and a worktop?) that you could make to your own specifications and then paint? Or another idea was a bit of both , like some built in shelves/bookcases and an old dining table or similar. I also liked the way some of the pics have a papered wall to set off all the white.
We're planning to redo our 'study' soon and I'm getting rid of the horrible bit of worktop that has the pc on it. I'm planning a wooden trestle or a dining table from Ikea and I'm having wooden Billy bookcases with glass fronts. That's because the wood finish looks better in my home but Ikea stuff is easily shabbied. If you look at their site, there are office examples with a lovely one in a bedroom that might suit.

I've got this argos desk (mainly cos it was the only one to fit in my alcove) but I changed the handles for shabby brass ones and covered the top and keyboard bit with some CK style spotty pvc tablecloth stuff to make it a bit shabbier. The tower sits in the cupboard (I left the back off so that the cables would fit!). Sorry I can't take a picture but I am away from home for a bit.

ok, went mad and used the grout that was in the shed (left by the previous occupants 6 years ago - unopened!) and mixed in some left over emulsion. Some of the emulsions I was going to use are really old and looked like blamange so I threw them out (tidier shed!).
Mixed a couple of the rasberry paint with magnolia and some light and space dulex to get a lighter pink. However, preparation isn't my strong point so I just painted, Its currently drying. A few lumps but good coverage. Might give it an extra coat and a bit of a sand.
If the weather holds tomorrows I might paint the table and chairs with the left over, they aren't used to sit on and are really just used as plant stands so might just give them a it of a spruce just for the summer.0 -
Thank you SO much girls :A Lots of inspiration to get looking at!
LOVE that desk AuntyMabel its really nice!!I've got this argos desk (mainly cos it was the only one to fit in my alcove) but I changed the handles for shabby brass ones and covered the top and keyboard bit with some CK style spotty pvc tablecloth stuff to make it a bit shabbier. I looked at this one it fits the bill and the desk top would suit the room especially the stair hand rail which has been left for the `shaker` feel.DebtFree FEB 2010!Slight blip in 2013 - Debtfree Aug 2014 :j

I love this thread, it's so inspiring!
I am going to paint the bedside chests and dressing table in our room. All our furniture is pine, but a nice waxed pine not the orangey stuff. My plan is to paint the drawers but leave the tops and handles pine. Then the wardrobes will remain pine but I'll just add ceramic handles so it's co-ordinated mix and match.
Can I just check that the following is the right way to go about it...
Sand
Undercoat
Paint
Varnsih
I'm not going for a distressed finish.
And, what would you recommend - Laura Ashley paint or F&B??
Many thanks

Thanks for the nice office comments. From being an avid Bibity bob fan, i'd guess there painted in Farrow and ball dimity
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
The funniest thing is, you're spot on!!!all except the frame with the paper in, which is one I pinched from a friend and just good luck (or maybe someone else is a dimity fan too!).
Alison - my cat hasn't been allowed near the rug yet  but she did like to play when they were all laid out on the kitchen floor!
Savingmummy - have you thought about one of those little cupboard things that you open the doors on and all the computer stuff is inside? They're usually orange pine, but you may be able to pick one up from ebay and paint it up?
...still chuckling about lolly's dimity comment :rotfl:0 -
I did spot a nice cupboard one but i have never done a proper paint it job so was worried i may ruin it or fail miserably!
SO i went today and got the one from Argos, its coming Tuesday:jDebtFree FEB 2010!Slight blip in 2013 - Debtfree Aug 2014 :j

I'm not an expert so wait for someone to reply who is, but ...
I'd be worried how deep the wax went/ how long it would take to sand it off.
Chalk paint covers waxed pine without any preperation.
I have masses of waxed pine ( it was once orangey varnish, that I sanded and waxed years ago) that I'm itching to redo. So will be interested in replies0 -

Not 100% but think I remember posts by annie? who was brilliant at suggesting methods to paint/re paint etc. If you have time search the posts and hopefully you might find some good advice :-)0
