AuntyMabel - Hope it goes ok.
How I started was saying to my brother that I wished I could get at that space and it was a shame the kick board was there. At which he leaned over and yanked at it and away it came! It was held on by metal grabbing clips, no screws or anything on mine (which was installed in the 80's).

I looked in another cupboard tonight and noticed that where one of the drawer fronts was smaller than the hole, my husband had put a bit of filler wood,2" x 2" or similar to make up the space. As my unit doors are oak, I just varnished all the wood with darkish varnish.

ps, my late father in law also used that space - he used to pull off the kick board and hide his valuables in it - then push the kickboard back on!

Lots of lovely makeovers. The dressing table and mirror is brilliant.
Jensmck; You've been busy. It's suprising what a bit of sandpaper and a pot of paint can achieve.

There doesn't seem to be a forum where I can post this, but it involves wood and paint!

    Thats lovely Penni B

I have been making lots of bits, i wish it was easier to upload from my phone :)

My coffee table is finished and now im considering distressing it - I'm not in love with it!
I followed a tutorial to fancy up the coconut mat by the door everybody that comes in loves it, i think it looks rather regal.
And i made a Scrabble picture with our family names on which i probably won't upload anyways just incase somebody recognises our names :)

Ohhhhhhh and my picture from Mr. Wharton himself arrived! Ode De Cologne, my parents are getting it framed for me - I love it so much. I spotted this pic whilst look after a lady work (Care in community) I spend lots of time with this lady and became quite attached anyways she passed away last week and her funeral is on Friday. I have been trying for weeks to get a copy and then yesterday it turned up! - I wasn't expecting it at all, i just emailed Mr. Wharton to see about getting a copy and he signed one and sent it in the post all the way from Germany.

    Anybody else been busy?

    Hi Sarahfitz.

I posted in my blog about it. Basically I sanded the whole thing lightly. I was going to sand the top but it was taking forever so I just used nitromors on it. Washed that off, sanded the top again then I gave it a coat of primer. I was going to use farrow and ball paint on it hence all the sanding and priming. In the end I used Annie Sloan chalk paint because I love the colour - you don't need to sand with chalk paint, you just whack it straight on.

To get neat edges I used masking tape. After two coats of chalk paint I just waxed with the Annie sloan soft wax and I waxed and buffed up the top too. I had it all done in an afternoon. It was very very quick and I love the transformation. Unfortunatly it still won't fit anywhere so is currently on ebay :-(

Right, it's time to get to work. I want to chic up a few pieces of shabby furniture. Just a few quick questions first:

I quite like Dimity F&B paint - is this a general favourite?
I was going to buy a Black & Decker mouse sander - does anyone have one? If so, is it any good?
I want to use wax on the unpainted areas to bring the wood up to a nice, natural condition. Is Colron a good one or would you recommend any other?

    Thanks my lovelies! x

My first Shabby Chic project is nearly complete. I've redecorated my home office with wallpaper from Laura Ashley (only did one wall couldn't afford to do more!)

    desk.jpg

    forums.moneysavingexpert.comdesk2.jpgdesk2.jpg

It cost me £6 for the 2 rolls of wallpaper they were in the end of rolls bargain bin!
The table was a freebie but was bright orange when I got it and covered in stains. 4 hours of sanding later and it now looks fab. The legs have been painted in Pale Biscuit from Laura Ashley.

The Letter rack has also been painted in Pale Biscuit and I did a bit of decoupage with off cuts of wallpaper.

I even stuck some wallpaper on some dodgy old coasters I had hanging around and covered them with some sticky back plastic to stop them from becoming marked.

The chair was a dark brown material and it had torn so I whipped that off and covered it in some blue gingham fabric that I found in the loft!

The little green cushion was from the Car Boot sale and cost me 50p.

So the total cost of the entire room makeover has been about £9.. £6 for the wallpaper about £2.50 for the paint (I still have loads left) and 50p for the cushion.

I've nearly finished painting my hallstand. Just few more coats of paint and the antique hooks need a wire brush to remove the rusty bits and need a spray with metal paint. (I'm quite liking this shabby chic-ing!) :)

(sorry for editing this but I just worked out how to add photos)
