Hi thanks very much for this reply princessfufu - I realise that I really need to get the Annie Sloan paint then if I am to revamp a veneered item! Trouble is after googling there are no stockists anywhere near here, and the online purchasing is not available either :( boo

Re the CS online it's not one of the big ones - I found ours by looking on ebay for furniture local to me, the place is called Pass it On & rehomes furniture given to them for a local Childrens charity. Maybe there is something like that near you? HTH

Hi sashanut thats for reply on CS online-doesnt appear to be near me but I will keep my eyes peeled as it sounds like a worthy cause :)

The on lone ordering system but have just gone down today as I ordered some wax yesterday from them. Just be patient as I am sure they will be back soon or why not just phone the lovely ladies who work there on 01865 247 296. I am sure they can help. I have also seen it on ebay too. Hope you get sorted soon x

    hi

i am curious about this annie sloan paint, i have nothing to paint at the moment, but if you use it on heavily veneered surfaces as you have mentioned how does it stand up to ware and tear?

as it doesnt have any surface to key onto, i may have to hunt some down when i find a project i want to tackle.

    thanks

Hi HMO - I am afraid I cant help with the wear and tear question just yet as the furniture I have used annie sloan on is in a spare bedroom and doesnt really get much use. I think the wax gives it an extra layer of protection too.

Once you have tried it nothing will be safe as a potential project :)
  • Annie sloan pain question

Hello I am just wondering if anyone has painted over annie sloan paint with a 'normal paint'? I have just finished painting my pine furniture with annie sloan and have some left but not enough to do 2 coats on a dresser i have so i wondered about using it as a sort of undercoat so i did not have to do all the prep on the dresser. Any thoughts much appreciated.

Just a quick up-date for anyone interested. I have painted my bureau using the annie sloan as 'undercoat' (without doing any nasty sanding etc!). It has worked a treat. I painted the top 2 coats with fired earth paint. I will post a photo once I have finished the inside. Has anyone replaced the felt on the inside of a bureau and any tips on 'doing up' the letter rack/sections bit inside? X

the Autentico people have sent me an email with a link to a blog http://thebarristershorse.wordpress.com/. I'd asked how their paint compares to A S.

Not many shops as yet but it looks like they are expanding,

although their next dealer in Kent will be the same shop I bought the A S paint in (Smoke on the water, Sandwich).

This is my first project. It is very exciting!

    6821013172_bc6bc94553_m.jpg

It is a pine coffee table/storage unit. I nabbed it from my friends garden. It was totally free as she has had enough of it and wanted her husband to chop it up and take to the tip. She said I was welcome to her tat! Straight in the car it was because I see some potential there.

It's very dinted on the surface but I have spent today sanding the surface right back. It's all bare wood now and although 'rustic' looking with it's bashes etc I have fallen in love with it now the shiny orange pine is no more.

My sister is giving me some oak stain tomorrow and going to rub it on slowly and off again as I don't want the surface to be too dark in colour. I would prefer a wax etc but I also want to do it for as cheaply as possible and learn on something free. (I have already been looking on ebay for my next project!)

So then the plan is to paint the shelves and sides a lovely ivory/creamy colour and add a couple of wicker baskets.

Can I ask.. as I want to do this cheaply - can I sand the surface of the shelves slightly and emulsion for an undercoat (as have some) and then top coat it in a matt 'gloss'.

I appreciate many of you like to do things properly and use expensive equipment but is my plan ok for a beginner?

    Thanks for reading! :)

Can I just say this? You don't need to purchase ANNIE SLOAN paint which is very expensive! You can easily make your own! All you need is matt emulsion and plaster of paris. That way you can have ANY colour you like! The recipe is three parts paint to one part plaster of paris and a little water. Just like the A.S. paint you don't need to sand first! If it's too cluggy ( this stuff dries fast!) add more water. Plaster of paris is cheap from art stores. Some people do two parts paint to one part plaster of paris. You can't go wrong.

Oh yeah, and any wax will do! Hers is quite sticky and I prefer LIBERON beeswax with turpentine. You Do need to wax to protect your paint. Happy painting!

Hi Fuddle, I wouldn't use emulsion as undercoat. I would use water based primer as its adhesion will be better. Then you can use matt emulsion over the top and wax. Paint is matt or gloss but not both! It's going to look great!!!
