Hello I am just wondering if anyone has painted over annie sloan paint with a 'normal paint'? I have just finished painting my pine furniture with annie sloan and have some left but not enough to do 2 coats on a dresser i have so i wondered about using it as a sort of undercoat so i did not have to do all the prep on the dresser. Any thoughts much appreciated.0 -
Thnaks for reply shirlgirl I will give it a go and can always sand if it doesnt work. X0

I've just started with my Annie paint - have done a little wooden garden table. It's brilliant! Easier to use than primer. The man in the shop said I'd need two coats but I think one coat and a dab here & there will be enough.
Then, as there was a bit of paint on the brush at the end, I painted highlights on a wicker basket that had been sprayed dark gold, it went on beautifully and now nothing is safe in the house :rotfl:0 -
Hi all:j
Have just found this thread but haven't got past page 5 yet..... and I need to ask a question:D. I want to get an old blanket box & paint it myself, I have seen a couple of these for sale in our local online CS but I think at least one of them is veneered - will I still be able to sand it down & then paint it OK? Or do I need an actual wooden box to be able to make a decent job? I can get down there tomorrow & have a look at them to make sure. TIA if you can help:TNew start JAN15 - NOT BUYING IT 2015 . Hello I can offer my thoughts on this if it helps. I have tried to sand down a veneered table and failed miserably (and I really did try hard!). The only solution for me for veneered furniture is annie sloan paint. As most people on her will tell you it is FAB. I have just painted a writing bureau this afternoon with it and it had a very high shine veneer. It covered it like a dream. I have made a good job of sanding and painting solid wood furniture but bear in mind that the more patient you are the better the result. HTH x
Just wondering which CS are onlone??0 -
My god, cannot believe my thread is still going after 3 years!!!!! And I can't believe I last logged in 2 years ago....where does time go????!!!!

I'm after a little bit of help if possible.
I have just been given a pine coffee table. The top of the table has been varnished a few times and is heavily dinted. I'm absolutely fine with a bit of character and would like to sand it right back to the wood and leave it natural. If I were to do this how would I protect the wood?
Any help would be appreciated. This is very exciting and thank goodness my husband works in tool hire!0 -
Luvvie - your new office looks great. Love the recovered chair, you have given me an idea to cover my old tatty chair. How did you fasten the material to the chair?0

hi
i am curious about this annie sloan paint, i have nothing to paint at the moment, but if you use it on heavily veneered surfaces as you have mentioned how does it stand up to ware and tear?
as it doesnt have any surface to key onto, i may have to hunt some down when i find a project i want to tackle.
thanks0 -

Hi thanks very much for this reply princessfufu - I realise that I really need to get the Annie Sloan paint then if I am to revamp a veneered item! Trouble is after googling there are no stockists anywhere near here, and the online purchasing is not available eitherboo
Re the CS online it's not one of the big ones - I found ours by looking on ebay for furniture local to me, the place is called Pass it On & rehomes furniture given to them for a local Childrens charity. Maybe there is something like that near you? HTHNew start JAN15 - NOT BUYING IT 2015 .
