a very thin metal plate is screwed to the inside of the drawer front - one each end, and the chunkier bits are screwed to the bits of wood the drawer front is going to meet up with.
someone told me Ikea now sell roll out drawers that fit under kitchen units.
Inside the hole I have large plastic trays so I just yank them out to reveal all the stuff stashed.
Husband & the camera are away this week or I'd take a picture!
does that make sense? I could upload a sketch if not.

Thanks for your reply and going to the trouble of finding the e-how link. I got a bit distracted there and ended up finding a recipe for a delicious-looking curried parsnip soup. I would be grateful if you could do a sketch (I'm amazed you can put that into a post) as I can't work out what bits of wood the chunkier bits are screwed to.'Yaze whit yeh hive an ye'll niver wahnt'

I've been lurking on the thread for an age, lusting after all your gorgeous bit of furniture. So I've decided to bite the bullet and give it a go myself.
I've just won this hall stand on ebay

Now.. I'm torn between painting the whole thing in a creamy coloured eggshell or painting some of the wood and sanding some of it with just a coat of wax? Decisions, decisions... what do you think?

Hiya - I also lurk here from time to time.I would just add a coat of wax and make a gorgeous cushion for it.

I love your knobs:rotfl: did you get those from ebay too?

I love the drawers, they were nice before being painted too. I bought some dining chairs too although not an Ebay bargain, I got them from Emmaus and because they were a set with a dining table (which we donated back) they were more expensive at £85. Mum paid for them to be recovered for Christmas, I will have to take a photo. I didnt want the shabby chic look so didnt paint them but love what youve done. I almost want to live on my own and have the challenge of furnishing a place with bargains but that is just a bizarre thought lol“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

Thanks. The bureau I have is quite dark wood. I got it on Freecycle and I love it but I'm not keen on dark wood and I'd really like to paint it a different colour.
Those Annie Sloan paints look lush and having found the website, I see there is a place very near me that does courses on using the paints and techniques. I'm VERY interested in doing one of the courses - thanks so much for mentioning these paints. :beer:0 -

/\ chipboard
side of kitchen unit
/\ wood screwed over place where 2 kitchen units meet up to hide the join
the magnetic catches are screwed to the side of the kitchen unit inside the dark hole right at the front so the bit of metal on the drawer front touches them.0 -
ps massively not to scale. Hubby is back Friday night, might persuade him to take pics on saturday!0

I'm picking up my hall stand at the weekend. I need to get some paint, unfortunately my budget won't stretch to Farrow and Ball. I've looked at the Laura Ashley paints which are £13.99 for 750ml or Annie Sloan which slightly more expensive. In my haste I did buy some Sanctuary Eggshell (a homebase own brand) I tried it out on a table and it's rubbish it goes on all streaky and dries to a kind of shiny finish. Yuck!
What would you go for? Laura Ashley or Annie Sloan which would involve a 30 min drive to pick it up?
