ha! and me, my house. I recently painted 3 brown pots a greeny colour. Stuck with a pale brown carpet and still got a lot of brown furniture, although it's under threat - a coffee table is in bits on my craft room floor waiting for the paintbrush.0

chalkysoil wrote: »by the way in case anyone else bought that cheap melamine paint - I added some artists oil paint to a small quantity of it and painted some pots, I wanted to alter the colour - anyway, it has dried ok - I had a feeling it might take weeks or be weird, but so far it's fine.
That melamine paint - will it do for painting anything that's got a veneer? I am doing a very cheap job on the kitchen and I wondered if I could paint the inside of the kitchen cupboards with that sort of paint - the cupboards are the cheap chipboard-covered-with-something type.0 -
I think so - my cd rack is chipboard or mdf covered with fake wood effect. The stuff I bought for £1 looks similar to this but has "Melamine paint - transform old cupboards and furniture" on the label and a picture of kitchen units. It says suitable for melamine surfaces not suitable for kitchen worktops or laminate flooring. I thought melamine was like plastic? So I've now painted a melamine(plastic) tray with it too. It says it takes 3 days for the paint to reach full hardness.
cd rack still looking good.
They also make this stuff http://www.wilkinsonplus.com/specialist-paint/international-cupboard-paint-gloss-white-750ml/invt/0240429/?htxt=PsAGyAqy%2FDSGVBgOHPBfATKVETOKIWHcwqoICuDrG%2FxTcDPfxIrYzUvEu76RzzM6wutKTeo9AOCB%0AtDs76aYYKg%3D%3D
which says "Transforms old melamine and MDF furniture and cupboards for a fresh new look. Superior adhesion and durability, quick drying." & costs £20 and I'd bet it's the same stuff.
I've painted a wardrobe & chest that was like MFI veneer stuff with satin gloss paint in the past. It took 3 coats and tends to chip a bit, but that was using just cheap wood primer. I'm now using Dulux
it's twice the price but seems to have magic powers! But I didn't use any primer with the international paint.
But all the stuff I'm painting is old junk so I'm not worried if I have a massive failure, if it was important it might be worth reading the Dulux site advice or B&Qs on paint.0
