Aaw bensonsmum, that's very sweet of you to say. I'm sure you'd have figured it out yourself though
savingmummy, I think a red/cream shaker style of shabby chic would look lovely with the wooden kitchen. Not sure it would go well with pastel shabby chic but I can imagine lots of chunky wicker, checks, stripes and painted signs (this one would be great! BHS have lots of nice kitchen stuff in their sale at the mo eg. this noticeboard - I bought my friend a toast rack in the same design).0 -

Is that because your home is rented savingmummy? We've very successfully painted over kitchen units in the past.0 -

Thats exactly what i`d like- wicker, stripes, checks, and vintage signs! Thats a fab sign!! LOVE the notice board:j Thank you!
Best get cracking :beer:Is that because your home is rented savingmummy? We've very successfully painted over kitchen units in the past.
It is rented and we can change the kitchen but fund wont stretch to that for many years unfortunately.
Painting them could be an option but not sure i`m that good to attempt it without making a bad mess:rotfl:DebtFree FEB 2010!Slight blip in 2013 - Debtfree Aug 2014 :j

Hello everyone hope its ok to join in. I have read all the thread (rather than do some much needed cleaning but thats another issue
)Shabby chic is certainly my style and its lovely to read all your ideas
I have a fairly modern kitchen with similar coloured doors saving mummy and I have lots of "things" like old jugs, baskets for eggs, photo frames, and the list goes on. I tend to go for the pink, white and cup cake type themes. I had an obsession with BHS shabby chic range for a while but now have most of it lol.
Hope its ok to ask a question too. I am currently in "need" of a vintage sewing machine for my spare room that I am planning on being very shabby chic. I don't necessarily need it to work as I may take it on as a project but I do love the look of the ones on a pedal base. Anyway I have seen one on ebay that is a 1921 Jones model on the base which looks in a fantastic condition, sorry I cannot post links yet. Its only £15 which sounds very good value. I would need to travel quite a long way to pick up so need to consider this but still seems a bargain. Just wondered if anyone has one of these and maybe renovated it? Thank you for the advice

I got a result last saturday. Hubby and I went to b&m in market harborough and I picked up 3 wide lipped water jugs in cream for 1.00 each which I think it a bargain. They are very much the shabby chic style. Not sure where to put them yet, may even fill with flowers and give as a gift.
Today (not not sure if shabby chic) I have made 3 pictures using gorgeous silver frames from Wilko and left over wall paper. They look fab xLucylema x :j0 -
 Some of you were kind enough to advise me on ideas for my spare room. It's coming together and yesterday I bought this mirror (it's the dark wood one at 140 x 40 cm).
http://www.cargohomeshop.com/search-results/default.aspx?Term=mirror
My plan is to either lean it or fix it to the wall. I'd have loved an ornate 'French' mirror but nothing seemed to be about in my price range so this was about the largest I could find. I thought that if I ever see an ideal mirror then I can always re-use this one elsewhere in the house.
Any ideas how to shabby/pretty it up? Bedroom will be all cream and white, neutral carpet and a feature wall of cream bird wallpaper (cream background with birds etc drawn in black outlines).0 -
yippeee i've finally done my dresser.
some of you may remember last april ( yes april 2010 !!!!) i bought a horrible orange pine dresser for about £20- £25 pounds and i had planned to get it painted really quick. well things didn't work as planned and i then kept putting it off. we then had work done in house and it meant no room for it in kitchen. so it went into dining room.
well on thursday my eldest two were out and youngest was asleep i thought i'm gonna get on with it. I spent about £20 on paints and bits and an afternoon of work and it is done. ( i'd previously sanded the top a few weeks )
it went from this.
to this in an afternoon
i also made a little felt heart to hang on the door.
all i did was used suger soap wipes all over it, then i put 3 coats of dulux primer on, then once dry i used white cotton emulsion paint and i will finish it off with a satin paint next week in the same colour. the knobs were old ones from our kitchen which i suger soap wiped over and then used a quick drying eggshell blue paint.
i love it, and so does hubby. it looks alot better than how it did before. i'm so pleased i finally got round to it.0 -
Can I poke my head round the corner here, not into shabby chic myself, but DS & GF just trying to buy a flat in North London, and she wants to have a bedroom in the French white fancy style (I am sure you know what I mean), can anyone give us any suggestions as to the sourcing of such items without breaking the bank I might add.

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -

Dunelm do a beautiful chateau bed and also a gorgeous armoire. They are not cheap but still cheaper than most places.
