May I join please?
I have loved reading the shabby chic threads for months now, and have finally took the plunge and bought my first item to paint etc:j
It's not getting delivered till Monday, so no pics at the moment, but it is a rather large wardrobe, rail on one side and shelves on the other - with delightful metal labels on each shelf for 'collars' handkerchiefs' 'hosery' etc. I absolutely love it, and it was only £15:j
So, I am now going to reread as much of the thread as I can manage, as I have no idea as to where to start. I know I want an off white colour (I think - bedroom walls are natural calico colour, do you think an off white would work?) and some pretty paper to line the shelves etc.
Wish me luck please - tis going to be a big job:D
Wow! you lucky thingI would love a big old wardrobe like that. I had a look around the CS that sells furniture when I was in town today and they had a beautiful welsh dresser but they wanted £150 for it
when I looked at them last year they were going for the £30 mark
but I didn't have the space for one then
fuddledI would be interested in knowing the answer to that question too as my laminate floor is very dark but it has only been down 2 years so OH wont change it yet but if it can be painted he might let me do that

I have not been able to do any shabbying lately but I did find this pic in a box (I forgot I had it
) so I have just put it in a CS frame I painted last year
I have such a passion for roses, especially big cabbage roses and peonies at the moment so this is going to stay in my bedroom

I wouldn't think that you can paint laminate, I would imagine it would give a very poor finish and rub off very quickly. It wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong though so I'll bow to anyone elses expertise
According to this, yes but with difficulty!

first decision made then - f & B dimity (is that what it is called?) sounds like it is the right colour for me:beer:0

Thank you Seakay for finding out about painting the floorI think I will dismiss that idea as I live in a tiny house it will be a nightmare to do
will have to go with plan B and just keep on at OH that the floor needs to be changed :rotfl:
Jetcat I love that colour, it fits in everywhere
I got a sample tin of the new cabbage white F&B and it is lovelyGetting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a timeand Love sewing

My living room is next... but sorely kicking myself for getting a brown leather sofas last year as I always had cream sofas with the fire last year i thought it was time for a change but I knew I made a huge mistake once it was delivered and now feeling totally lost as i do not know how to shabby up a living room with brown seatee can anyone give me any ideas please?? my living room walls are cream, fireplace is cream stone fireplace which i put in two years ago floors are light oak.I am determined to lose weight!:kisses3:
Weight loss so far 2 stones 6lbs!! :j:j0 -
What about cream gingham? Also cream/taupe textured throws and cream based florals. Think sort of modern country rather than full blown cath kidston. Also brown based tartan/check would look nice in winter for warmth. I would also introduce another colour as well, maybe a pink/raspberry or another toning colour to give it an accent.
Oooops, sorry long time lurker that hasnt introduced herself .... my name is lilo and I am a shabby-oholic. I am currently having a love affair with cath kidston and am currently shabbying a desk which is going to be a dressing table in my bedroom.

Thanks lilo, I already have gingham in the kitchen and I just adore roses, I am trying to find something that would tone in with the brown sofa ... that has roses!!
I decided at the last minute tonight to fly round to the auction at 9pm as I had been after a fire screen that folds down into a table for ages and boy I am so glad i did i got it for a £5 :j and a folding table which is perfect for my sewing machine for £5 too!!
I am going to change the embroidery and I fancy something with roses in the centre, any ideas on a large central print?
I don't know if you have Heatons but they are selling these lampshades for 1.29 for a small one £1.75 for a medium one and £2.49 for the large one pic is not good but its is cream with pink flowers. I got two for my bedroom as I papered one wall in laura ashley pink and cream wallpaper.I am determined to lose weight!:kisses3:

I love your blog. Your mirror bargains are fab !!!
The curtains I have in my living room, I think would go lovely with a brown leather sofa. They have a cream background with blue and burgundy roses and green leaves. The top 18 inches of the curtain is blue with white spots. They do matching cushion covers too and really reasonably priced.
Here is a link (hopefully). The colours in the photo aren't true colours. In real life the blue is more of a duck egg blue and the roses are more burgundy than pink. hth.
