I have used f & b oil based eggshell on a number of furniture items and it is very durable. Johnstones Trade centres (http://www.johnstonestrade.com/) will colour match f & b shades for you in their own oil based paint which is excellent quality. I am a new convert to trade paints! :)

Prep is same as for kitchen cabinets, Sand lightly but well to give key. Use oil based undercoat (applied with good quality no bristle loss brush) and then several topcoats, sanding lightly with high grade (at least 180 grit) sandpaper between coats. For oil based leave 24 hours between each coat and preferably 5 days afterwards before use, to allow the paint coats to properly adhere to each other and harden off.

I know oil based paints are not good for the environment but I use them sparingly and justify the use to myself as a trade-off - I am avoiding the purchase of new items with all the production and transport pollution that brings, saving things from landfill and will keep them in my home
for a long time to come!

thanks for this. When I went looking for some paint to mat h my kitchen(f and b eggshell) I was told that the oil based was no longer available/ allowed and had been replaced with water based. I managed with some left overs so did not try the wAter based one.

has that worked? i'm not very good with technology!
if it has then you should be able to see a gorge sort of dusky pink/old rose very ott lamp shade.
it was very dirty (just years & years of dust), i had to wash each tassel individually to get them clean but i think it was worth it, i LOVE it. best of all it only cost me £2.

it is the sort that has the wide fitting, not sure what its called but you have to balance it on a thing that attatches to the lamp stand. luckily i already had that bit, maybe thats why it was so cheap as they didnt think anyone would!
anyone know what era it could be from? i think it looks 1940's but dont think it could have lasted that long!

no worries hun - I know when you have posted a pic with a host site - you can copy the properties details and then surround it with something like (img) and then at the end (\img) but instead of the round brackets you use the square ones if that makes sense? you need this one [ and this one ]
