I sanded it down, used FB emulison and then varnished it with water based varnish (matt)

  • Hello again :)

I was wondering if anyone has had a go at doing decoupage on furniture? I'm hoping to replace my 'fake' bureau with a nice old one, but I was hoping to decoupage the 'fake' one with pages from an old Alice In Wonderland book for my daughter (an aspiring writer at the grand old age of 10 :) ). I can see it in my head, but I don't want to jump in and do it wrong.... hoping it will be a fun project for us to do together...

can't even begin to think about what handles would go with it! And then, do I paint it first with melomine paint, or just go the whole hog.... I don't want it to end up looking like a clueless mum and 10 year old did it at the weekend :D

  • Irish girl, I absolutely LOVE the fire gaurd! And with the ship on! It's beautiful. I'll have to keep a look out at the car boot for one, but I can't imagine ever finding one for a fiver!! What a great find!

It sounds like a lovely idea.

Here are links to a decoupaged chair project on the shabby chic cafe:

  • Thank you annie, what a great chair!! I might have to have a go at one for my son :)

Well, the lady put the cabinet back on ebay.... and I got it for £10.50 :D so rather chuffed with that.... still got to pick it up.

I also got a gateleg table and 4 chairs from the seller and a retro dressing table too :D I doubt te dressing table will be to everyones taste, but I liked it..... it all came to a grand total of £31.50!! I think that is very good for what I got.

It will probably be a few months before we can start on doing them up as I have college commitments, but I'll have a whole summer holiday to do it. I can't wait to get started!

The forum is run by one woman, Debbie, who has a few kids, including a young baby, so she is not always around. She does get round to keeping up with things within a week or so though and it is definitely not inviatation only! :)

I am posting for a bit of advice.....went to Cambridge yesterday and there is a branch of the White Company there. So gorgeous and so expensive!
I have always fancied doing my bedroom in their style and this time DH agreed!
We have looked at the furniture and it is something we could save for but we currently have pine stuff which is in perfect condition and fits the room well ( old house with odd low windows and a sloping ceiling in that room) I am thinking that I could paint it but not sure it would be durable enough. I have hand painted kit chen and I am forever touching up bits ( it is farrow and ball eggshell which is now water based)
I need some advice on how to prepare the surface (think it has a light lacquer on it) and what paint to use for a flat finish which is durable.
    Thanks in advance
