27c is a nice temperature for me, though this year have been trying to cut back, so a few layers of clothing and a thick jumper is the way we are going, though had managed to slowly reduce the heating the last couple of years down to 19c - 20c.

It's only been a 4 - 5 years since we only had just one room with a gas fire and no other heating in the house, and not that many years when we only had a useless / nasty coal fire in the one room and no other heating. I've survived growing up with only heating in one room (though as a very young child we did have central heating) and many people before us survived too, some of them often without heat for days or weeks in the winter as they had no money to buy coal.

Admittedly it was very cold and I hate the cold, I prefer to hibernate.

Have only switched the heating on 3 or 4 times recently and only for short amount of time to top the heat up, at the current time of posting the heating is switched off, though do have a thick jumper on.

I hate the cold weather and feeling cold.
Last week my boiler broke down. It was fixed 4 days later and has been on constantly since then.
I did put it on a few weeks before it broke but usually only mornings and evenings.
  • I had been away for a week with dd to south of Spain where it was lovely weather. On the return we asked cabin crew what the weather was in B'ham and were told: 'Oh we had to scape the cars this morning there was a frost' I had not been too well while away and while freezing at waiting for bus to car park and told OH to 'PUT THE HEATING ON !!' He had managed OK with lounge fire, so much to my amazement we made it to 1st of November again (as last year) not bad I feel, but will def stay on now.

I'm sitting in a t-shirt and the heating is still off, didn't switch it on last night, I hate the cold but at the moment it's warm enough in the house.

According to an article on the BBC:

24C - top range of comfort
21C - recommended living room temperature
Less than 20C - death risk begins
    18C - recommended bedroom temperature
16C - resistance to respiratory diseases weakened
12C - more than two hours at this temperature raises blood pressure and increases heart attack and stroke risk
5C - Significant risk of hypothermia

I live in newly built flats which doesn't have a gas supply. The room temperature for the loung is currently 16C. I only have one flimsy convection heater which increases the room temperature to 17C. What can I do? The building is constantly cold!

An electric blanket costs nowt to nothing to run, so that's the bedroom sorted.

    1) Move

    2) Spend all your time at other peoples homes, then just go home to sleep.

    3) Get a portable gas heater.

    4) Put on plenty of warm clothes

    5) Get used to the lower temperature.

    6) Go cold.

How many watts does an electric blanket use?

69watts in my case, tho if you have a 100w electric blanket on for 10 hours that would cost 1kwh's worth, again in my case 4.09pence on E7 or 10.99pence otherwise.
'Tis cheaper to stay in bed !!
..er...edit..not 4.09pence for 10 hours, but cheap anyway.
