Hello all - can i join please?!

Im getting married on Friday 18th November, so far i have a venue arranges, my dress ordered, grooms and best man suit ordered from hire shop, florist booked, photographer booked, and we have arranged our own outside catering for the evening reception as we didn't really want a cold buffet for our evening guests and the price per head for a hot buffet was frightening! so we've arranged a hog roast with salads and rolls. The local butchers is doing it for us at a third of the quoted price from the hotel for their buffet!
We are having our civil ceremony at the hotel at 3.30pm followed by an hours photo's and mingling with drinks whilst the hotel staff turn the ceremony room into an afternoon tea room, im not doing specific seats at the tables more of a sit where you like - theres 40 of us in total and the the evening doo is held in an adjacent function room starting at 7pm where weve decided to have the speeches and cutting of the cake at the start of the evening reception as we will have been joined by 60 more people and want them to share it with us.

Got to still think about table decorations etc for an afternoon tea and then the function room for the evening party. 2 completely different looks are required!

Purple is my colour theme by the way!!

Welcome littlecat. I love the idea of your afternoon tea - it sounds brilliant. That's great about the hog roast too, especially since you've got a bargain

Neenaww - at least you will be married sooner if its September! I don't know about anyone else but I'm wishing the weeks away until the wedding! Employers are a nightmare though sometimes. I'm having to look for a new job now, and I'm slightly worried that they'll have a problem with me needing so much leave as I'd need a couple of days for my hen doo and at least 3 and a half weeks for the wedding and honeymoon! Everything's booked so there's not much I could do to compromise so hopefully if and when I do get something they'll be understanding!

Thank you for the welcome! Im very excited to be here!!

Ive decided to write out my invitations this weekend so will be posting them next week, my SIL2b made all the invites for us with co-ordinating rsvp's - theyre amazing!

I need to update my little book too as i ordered some enamel jugs from ebay last night which im going to ask the florist to utilise for the table decoration for the afternoon tea - they look quite chintzy so should suit the afternoon tea theme!

    Hello again all :)

Chrissy1981 - My dress is staying at my parents' house because I don't want my OH to see it. I wish I could have it in my place just so I could wear it more often, I love wearing it! Knowing my luck OH would walk in while I was in it lol. Did you get all your BM accessories that you were looking for when you went shopping? That's great about getting a friends discount for the invites, useful to know these arty/designer types! Totally know what you mean about the Royal Wedding getting you in the mood for your own, 6 months today for me! Doesn't seem long since I was saying 'only a year to go!'

Bluespirit - that's great that you have been to the venue and picked things out, it seems to much more real when you do that doesn't it? And seeing it set up is fab because you can start to invisage how your own wedding will be. That's lovely for your sister to be pregnant but totally understand that it makes things a bit difficult for you. I'm sure your friend won't mind about being asked to replace her, she will probably be thrilled to be a part of your big day. The marriage preparation course sounds interesting. The only time I've seen something like that is on the film Licence to Wed, which is really funny with Robin Williams. Maybe it's something all couples should go on at some point, I'm sure we can all make our communcation skills better. And yeah for laser eye surgery btw! Fab.

Neenaww - sorry to see you go but we wish you all the best for your September wedding! Post a pic for us when it happens as we will all be in the stressful throws of planning at that point probably!

Littlecat29 - welcome to our thread :) It sounds like you are really organised, well done. Hog roasts have always interested me, they look pretty cool when they are set up. Purple is my favourite colour, that will be a gorgeous colour scheme. What are your ideas for the look for the afternoon tea and the evening reception? A catalogue I like to look through is Confetti because they have lovely table decorations and ideas, then I try to find them cheaper elsewhere ;) The enamel jugs sound lovely (just read that).

I've been rather lazy lately and not done much in the way of wedding related things apart from updating the guest list. Need to get my butt back in gear and get the invites ready to be printed off. Not printing til June or July but want to get them all designed as I am doing them myself. Need to get OH to do the music as he's in charge of that, even though I have been getting in on it as well!

Out of interest, will anyone else be thinking of starting a family just after they are married? That's our plan for after the honeymoon. Honeymoon in Disneyworld Florida would be a bad idea to start trying... rollercoasters wouldn't be the best idea! Lol.

Yay! Thanks for reminding me Enchantica - its 6 months to the day for me too. In fact, this time in 6 months time we'll be married and getting our photographs taken! Hopefully it will be just as sunny on the day. (Its a bit crazy but thinking about it has just made me all giddy with excitement!)

Enchantica - I may need to see if I can get hold of the Licence to Wed film - never seen it, but might give us a laugh! And yes, we will definitely be trying for a family once we're married. Planning on possibly starting on honeymoon! I'm 31 next week, and H2B is 39 so don't want to leave it much later!

Losingpatience - Hope your dress fits. Well done on the weight loss so far and on the running, I keep trying to be a runner but it never sticks! I'm in a similar situation dresswise, and have lost 11lbs in the last 6 weeks, but need to lose a bit more to fit into the dress and feel happy! The matalan flowers look lovely, and very reasonably priced too. Do you have a link for your honeymoon destination, would love to see it?

Well I've ordered my ring cushions today - found some lovely personalised ones on ebay for only £7.99, and they are heart shaped with a red ribbon with our names and wedding date on. We have to get 2 as we're having 2 page boys and felt it would be easier to just have one ring per boy/per pillow! I've also found some lovely and reasonably priced BM jewellery sets on ebay as well, and I've contacted the seller who's able to make a special set for my child bridesmaid so she has the same design but smaller! She's also going to email me some other designs she's made in the past so that I have a choice.

The other thing we've also sorted over the last couple of days is our favours. We were originally going to make shortbread ourselves (well when I say we, I really mean me), but I've decided that there's too much to do the week before the wedding and don't want to give myself the extra pressure of having to do this. At a wedding fayre we were at a while ago, we tasted some lovely fudge, and the company showed really nicely wrapped wedding favours. They're £2, so not cheap but a lot better priced than most other things I looked at. We can get lots of interesting flavours too, so I'm happy to spend the money and not have to do anything!

Now our focus is probably moving to house selling for a while as we're both about to put our places on the market and then look for a nice family home!

    Hello All,
Well my enamel jugs arrived today from ebay - they have been used once already at a wedding but are in tip top condition so im very happy! Another addition to my wedding cost book and something else for the other half to put up in the loft!!
The jugs are going on the tables for the afternoon tea, hoping to get a chintzy look, the tea is being held in the conservatory part of the hotel - infact thats the room we're getting married in too.
Printed out the information sheet to go in with the invites today after work and one sheet got trapped in the copier!! my heart stopped - luckily managed to pull apart the copier and retrieve it! phew! :-) Going to write the invites this weekend.
    What to do next??!!
Have a lovely weekend everyone xx

    Hi everyone,

Welcome littlecat! I think we probably have a very similar book -- mine has all my lists and ideas in and goes everywhere with me in my handbag!

I've done really well over the last couple of weeks and got all my bridal party gifts, OH's shoes (told him to go mad and spend whatever he wants cos mine, although a gift, were horrendously expensive and he spent £35 in Next!!), registered the gift list, found simple clutch bags for the BM's, bought nice simple jewellery sets for the BM's and -- most importantly of all -- found ties and silk hankies that match the BM's dresses!!!! Dearer than I thought they'd be but not many shops sell silk hankies let alone with a matching tie in cornflower blue! They're from Austin Reed so I got good cashback online. Slight panic when they would only let me order 2 hankies at a time (I need 7) so rang around stores and my OH collected the remaining 5 although he cursed my directions so much I thought the wedding was off!!! ;o) Have since noticed that although the ties in the shop and online are priced at £29, the tags when they arrived said £20 although my delivery note still said £29. I rang them up and they said just to send in the tags and they'll refund me the difference -- £63 thank you very much!

Eagle eyes I have, I tell you! Actually, I have Laser Eyes too Bluespirit!! Congratulations on getting them done, it's a huge decision. I had mine done 4 years ago now and it's easily the best thing I've done.

My venue had a bridal fair last weekend so we took the mums and my dad to take a look as the banquetting suite was all dressed. OMG it looked really scary with all the tables out and decorated and the top table there!!! My dad made me stand behind the top table which made me feel really silly but he was right as it didn't look quite so intimidating from that angle. Got to keep remembering everyone is coming here to support us in our marriage!

Ooh nearly forgot, have decided on our favours - alphabet chocolates from Thorntons. They're 25p a head under budget and I think they're personal to us and look nice without being cheesey.

    http://www.thorntons.co.uk/c/Wedding_Favours_Love_Letters.html

Bluespirit, good luck with the house selling. I'm trying to sell my flat at the moment and it's a bit slow moving. Just got to keep our fingers crossed!

Losingpatience -- would love to know where you're going on your honeymoon! I keep looking at the hotel reviews for ours and wishing the next 6 months away -- ooh it's 6 months til my honeymoon today!

Hi Enchantica, we are hoping to start a family once we're married. If OH had his way I'd be up the duff now but I keep trying to explain that if that happened, my wonderful dress won't fit!!!!! He just doesn't get it... I'm thinking of coming off my pill 2 months before the wedding but then it would just be my luck that I'd be on over the wedding/honeymoon. So I'll probably just stay on it til the honeymoon's finished then we'll get on it! Wouldn't it be lovely if you had a Disney baby!

I am holding my Shoe Party on Friday for my BM's! I ordered 11 pairs of sandals in various heel heights, foot widths and sizes and my flat is slowly resembling a shoe shop... I already know which pair my sister is going to love and I'm thinking of ordering them for myself, just for any time really! Have a look!

    http://www.linzishoes.com/prod.php?id=324750_colour_silver

So I'm off to post a thread about shoe themes for the party -- all I've got so far is choux pastry eclairs (choux/shoe, geddit?!) and Singapore Slingback cocktails! And neither of those were my ideas!

    Speak soon xx

Neenaww - sorry to see you go, but its great you've got everything confirmed, and I hope the wedding goes brilliantly!

Littlecat - that's great your jugs have arrived, they sound lovely.

Chrissy - wow, sounds like you've got loads sorted now, and the favours look really lovely. What about playing the shoop shoop song for your shoe party when people are trying them on? Can't really think of anything else shoe related!

We might be picking up OH's kilt outfit today if we have enough time. He'll be trying it all on in the shop, so it'll be really exciting to see him all dressed up!
