    How about you Benders?

Our garden guy didn't turn up this morning, so I suppose we've saved money there (although really just postponed because we DO need to get it sorted).

Two loads of laundry done before we came out this morning but because of the height of the grass we can't hang it out, so the dryer is on :(

    However, other money-saving successes are:

    * Deep fryer we were returning because of dodgy handle was accepted by Tesco, even though the cat ate the corner of the box (same day she didn't use the litter box... I think she's having a rebellion at all our late nights at work!), so £14.49 refund with two £2 coins in it for my pot. Plus, I'm sure our waistlines thank us (although I'll still get another one as it was to try and make our own 'chippy' fish suppers and save some cash).

    * Took the car back to the garage, and our mechanic feels so bad about sending us home with loose nuts that he's replaced the missing one for free, checked all the others AND he replaced a dead side light bulb for free. Saved about a fiver on the bulb and probably the same again on his time for fitting it (took 10 mins cos it's fiddly).

    * came in to town to spend a few hours in work. Parked up in the car park at work, so didn't have to pay or get caught up in the traffic jams caused by the Pride parade ;) then wandered along to get another free lunch from Uppercrust (4.99 value including cold drink) through O2 Priority Moments. Also used a Cafe Nero offer and got a free iced moka frappe (£2.99 value) x 2 because we both have O2 phones. So £16 of freebies thanks to our already pretty cheap mobile contracts. :D

    * spending the afternoon in work, so can't spend any money (technically, unless I get distracted online).

It's not going to be a no-spend day because we need to fill the petrol tank to get home, but we do have a 5p off a litre voucher for Tesco from when we did provisions shopping for work last week. We did some more last night and got another one, so that's this week and next week's petrol taken care of. We got a voucher in sainsbury's (shopping for work again) which gives us 5p off a litre of petrol if we spend £15 or more on toiletries. Since there are some toiletries that will cost pretty much the same wherever we buy them (and I'm not willing to compromise on brands by getting an equivalent at Aldi) then I'll just stock up for the next few months and get another petrol voucher. We can do this any time up till 14th August, so plenty of time to use up all this cheap petrol since we fill up once a week due to our lengthy commute.

Wow... this turned out to be quite an entry. I'm going to cross post it on my diary too, cos this is good money-saving stuff (if I do say so myself). :p

Happy Glasgow Pride :D Because we're at work, we're missing Joe McElderry on the main stage in George Square :rotfl: Lucky escape! ;)

Thanks for being angry with me. TBH I really hate bad manners and just crashing into someone's car and driving off isnt really on.

The big laugh I had today was the Joe McElderry comment ha ha ha.

I get those 5p vouchers once and awhile but since I rarely ever drive anywhere they often expire before I get petrol!

    Oh well.

I did a valued opinions survey and made £2.50 so at least that caps off a £10 amazon voucher I can use for xmas.

I am so angry for you.. You work so hard and for people to not tell you when they hit your car is just terrible. I cant imagine what kind of scum bag could do that. Big (((hugs))).. We have had a shi11ty day too.. No where near as bad as you .. But the engine went on the boat... No engine no batteries.. No batteries nothing works.. So from an exciting day out we had planned, have had to listen to husband expletives most of the day. :) In the end took my self off to the gym and just swam and swam it all out of my system. I am not great in a crisis and poor o/h seems to cop for it .. I really hate that about myself.. Hey ho treated him to his fave wine and a roast bless him.. Look after yourself..You can always come and join me for a glass of wine and a sail... that`s if she works tomorrow :)x

    Hello NewLeaf

I noticed you'd popped in to visit me and thought I'd return the compliment. So, so well done on your MS adventures. I have been (relatively) debt free since my teens but only started thinking in MS terms when I gave up work recently. But I so wish I had got into that mind set all those years when I was working and we had a good income. All that money I frittered away - the mortgage could be paid for by now and, oh the holidays I could have had. So I think you've started at a really good time and wish you the best of luck.

    Fortune x

Bast I am going to take you up on that. Instead of swimming, I did cleaning and sorting. I clean in tines of stress or upset.

    thanks for the hugs xx

Grrr about your car. I hope your insurance will cover it, though I suppose you'll be hit with an excess even then.

Aaah, you city dwellers! So quaint ;)

I promise you, it'll be tiny! Smaller than a computer mouse, about half as wide, and more terrified than you are!

Sorry if this next bit grosses you out, but here's a bit of practical advice from a country-dweller who does this about 6 times a year, if not more.

If you can stand it, I would advise snap traps rather than poison. If you put down poison, it will take longer to die, and will find the most inaccessible spot in your house to do it (ie, under the floorboards) and will take about three months to completely decompose, and decomposing mouse stinks!

Snap traps are quick and it will die immediately in the spot that you expect it to, and can be disposed of straight away*. No prolonged death for the mouse, no prolonged stink in your house.

    Hope this helps. x

    * In the spirit of full disclosure, my OH disposes of all mice corpses. I'm the official spider-getter (with my Dyson), she's the mouse disposer.
