    welcome misslr

so far nsd. Breakfast and lunch from on hand and mum is taking us to dinner at our local. (That sounds horrible but my mom is well off and if I tried to pay for our part she would slap my hand)

My lady with the unpronouncable name comes home tomorrow, so that payment holiday will be over.

My mom will be here until the 19th which will be interesting!

Phew well I did it, read the whole lot. What can I say other than THEM are a pain in the whatsits. my current payment due to them is more than yours and I feel your pain!

I really hope the post op issues resolve themselves. From one who does a lot of travelling for work please take care a bit longer with your health and very best of luck with the walking tube idea.

You have made great progress and hope this continues in 2013

    Hi Robin,

This is the important one to me
Helping to promote and fund training of health workers in the clinical and psychosocial areas of reconstructive surgery, both in the UK and in developing countries.
(Helping PTSD, etc to becoming disfigured)

but also funding research into treatments for burn victims (like those plastic face masks)

Thanks for the explanation, NewLeaf. I can sort-of see where you're coming from, but must say I have reservations..
To use your own example; plastic face masks for burns victims. Big Pharma clocks up huge sums in R&D costs for such things, which is passed on to the end user/tax-payer of course. Yet there is a plant which is more effective than all the expensively produced chemicals.. Why not work on creating a mask from this plant material which would heal as it protects? ..It would cost a fraction of what Big Pharma insists on spending, but because the profit on this plant material would be minimal, they're not interested. I bet fewer than one in ten of the people reading this can name the plant I'm talking about..?

I find that very worrying. Likewise "psychosocial areas of reconstructive surgery" - what does that mean, exactly? Surely anyone who needs reconstructive surgery wants the practical techniques used to be effective, far more than being provided with counselling to deal with their 'difference'?

Sorry, this is a bit serious for this time of day! I'm not dismissing the aims of this charity, I just don't understand their logic. :o

    Hi Robin,

Thanks for being interested. Big Pharma doesn't back this charity. there is a need for therapy as well as effective recontructive surgery.

If you have an identity for lets say 20 or 40 years and knowing what you look like and you have acid thrown on your face (like Katie Piper) or someone shoots you in the face, or a bomb goes off and damages your face and you lose funcationality in a hand and your job was doing something with your hands, that is hard to come to terms with.

Likewise, not every charity appeals to everyone. For example I love the dogs's trust, and some people think trying to save dogs is useless. xx
