Still trying to absorb the £6,600 tax shock. I finally thought I was on the right code and everything, gave up the company car, the fuel card and still got slammed.

I need to have another day of wallowing and then get a game plan together

Terrible news. Can you set it to one side until the new year. A good time away from thinking often gives a good perspective?

Yikes! What a shock - have you got an accountant? If not, getting one could be a very good investment if you're still looking for an xmas pressie to give yourself! ;)

I just instructed an accountant this morning. It was because of the damn company car.

Just having a pity party because it is one step forward 2 back really. My house keeper goes to Poland on Friday for 3 weeks so I can use what I would have paid her in wages for the accountant.

Things are going to get so frugal around here OH isn't going to know what's hit her!

Good - if the accountant can't shave a decent slice off that bill please feel free to instruct me to eat my hat! :D

Hmm. Sometimes it is advantageous to take a step sideways before the way forward becomes clear - rather like stepping round a large rock on a mountain path. I would definitely regard the accountant as a sideways step rather than backwards. An allowable expense of course, which softens the [STRIKE]blow[/STRIKE] bill. Actually NewLeaf, I'm a bit surprised you've been trying to manage without one, given the ££ [and $$?] that passes through your household, plus you're an employer.

Good again, useful (unless you'd already earmarked those funds for something else?).

Don't worry, it's possible to live well while enjoying frugal pleasures. :D On that line, here's a cheap excursion over the holidays:

..Would love to take up this offer myself but it wouldn't be very MSE or practical for me at the moment!
