I've had 2 Tosh. Laptops both great machines (ok I'm an Apple boy now), but I've also had a laptop from Aldi (yep the cheap food store) and know several people who've had desktop pc's. They are normally a German make and are high spec machines, with 2yrs warranty, I never had a problem with it.

There is one on there website now, but I'd get the view of others on here first.

how bout this for £400 ???

plenty more on same seller, and full 12 month warranty....

Would be great if they hadn't put the price up and it had Windows 7 installed

How much you spend depends on what spec you want, and that depends on what you want to do with it...

    or this for £300

    Sempron processor. No

    or this for £290

    No :)

decide your useage, therefore the spec, then shop accordingly :)

Hopefully something suitable will appear soon.

The link is from there special buys page and they are normally good at updating there website.

If there are some left, do you think they are a good buy or not?

Aldi have a 3 year warranty which is hard to resist because my experience is that they do really honour the warranty!

My Dell laptop is now 3 years old and is OK. The big problem was DELL service in that at (nearly) the end of year 2 they talked me through a wipe and re-install and since then I have not been able to play DVD on the drive. I know now that the software should have been installed before re-installing Vista but then out of warranty. I can't face the prospect of losing everything (I do have a HP backup hard drive with all loaded) but not the knowledge to do everything and all the updates take a couple of weeks! I guess it is just having the warranty and someone to take over the problem .... so consider ALDI!

Are you sure about this? Perhaps this is the case if you want to use the MediaDirect buttons on the machine, but you should still be able to view your DVD content with suitable software such as the VLC Player

Sorry, but I don't know. I would have to go trawling through what is available at that price point in order to compare.

    I have two ideas:

    (a) Pay £1 for a month's WHICH trial to get some test reports.

    https://www.which.co.uk/signup

    (b) Look @ Medion, (like another poster has suggested) @ Aldi you get a 3yr guarantee. I bought mine elsewhere.

I have a Medion laptop and it is well built

    Attention to detail -
received Win 7 and other back-up discs, rubber seal for audio sockets and sponge sheet for keyboard to screen protection, laptop bag, mouse.

I too am on a laptop hunt and have wasted away many hours of my life searching for one i will be happy with.

I have had my current laptop, a Toshiba, for 4 years and never a problem. Love everything about it. So during my searching i have come to the decision that i am going to buy another Toshiba, or an Asus.
I am on my mobile atm but tomorrow i will post a few that i'm debating between.

And to whoever said no to Tosh but have an Advent- i take it you haven't had the Advent for long, they are Currys/PC World etc own brand. I am avoiding those like the plague.
  • I am no expert either may I add but I have been looking for a laptop ... This Asus to me sounds good compared to the other millions I have looked at,lol
