I think my point was that most companies will charge for their time even if they find nothing (not limited to cars) - the reason why most of us wont take a car to a garage for an intermittant problem, cos if they don't see it they can't attempt to fix it but may still charge for looking (or suggest 101 things that could be bought to try to remedy whatever it is).
So they didn't find the binding piston, yeah doesn't speak well for the 17yo as anyone with experience would probably go look at the piston first (I would now I know!).0 -
regarding NATIONWIDE AUTOCENTRES yes they are owned by halfords but the problems will still remain. they are sales target driven with the managers getting big bonuses and the techs productivity bonus, the 2 big areas are the managers selling stuff which does'nt need doing and the techs cutting corners. they are just as bad as kwik fit maybe even worse,
regarding the use of inferior parts on contract vehicles its the lease companys that dictate where the parts are sourced form0 -

Uh-oh! I dropped my car off at Nationwide this morning for an MOT... it shouldn't need any repairs, I don't think!
I started readign this thread feelign a bit smug I didn't take to Kwik Fit even though someone suggested them to me... now I'm concerned!:(0 -

They'll almost certainly slap advisories on it..... Maybe even a few "off the record" advisories.
I doubt they'd fail it for no good reason, they'd open themselves up to a world of pain if you went off somewhere else.
One good tactic is when you take it in for MOT, ask them if they can write down the problems so that you can pass this to your mechanic if it fails.
You are of course feeding them utter bu11sh*t, you have no mechanic.... But your giving them a clear message that you won't let them do any repairs = no point failing it for no reason“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I had a fast puncture a couple of years ago, and literally pulled in to a Kwik Fit on the last 10psi I think. I was in an unusual town to me, and the boot was full of stuff I'd just collected, so using the spare was going to be a major exercise at the roadside. Having had a new premium tyre fitted 3 months previous for £62 all in (thank you BlackCircles.com), I wasn't prepared to pay more than £80 on the spot.
"Good news sir, we have the tyre you use in stock. It'll be £192 fitted, and we will even dispose of the old one for you!".
I still had the blackcircles receipt in the car. Oddly, after he'd applied several "discounts", I got it for £75?

Nationwide Autocentre may have changed names to Halfords Autocentre, but that is only branding. It's still the same company under the bonnet only with a new directors on the board.
Also all fast fit centres, National Tyres included, are all dodgy and up to the same scams.0 -
Ok watched this last night........ Im very disapointed that watchdog didn't ask the burning question regarding whether their employee's are paid a commission or bonus for drumming up additional sales!!!! They should also have mentioned that certain other tyre/exhaust chains are just as bad!!“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I never use them after years ago having my exhaust repaired ,
they said I also needed additional work doing costing £240.
Luckily my dads friend had his own mot center and checked it out and told me theres nothing wrong with it .
So I now call Quick Fit "QUICK CON"Kindness costs nothing0 -
