So, if we as Lloyds customers in Scotland, do not wish to be sold, what do we do?

They've not told us yet, but I'd imagine, similar to the sale of RBS branches in England and Wales to Santander, that customers will be given the option to stay with Lloyds - perhaps under the Bank of Scotland brand.

I'm going to hold out to see who buys, as it stands, with each passing day, my Bank of Scotland accounts are becoming Lloyds accounts with a national identity complex. I also have Lloyds TSB Scotland accounts, so one set of accounts being sold might diversify my banking without me having to do a thing. :o
Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.

We are already BOS customers, but if they will be offering the Vantage account, then I might be happy. Otherwise presumably we can still be with Lloyds, no need for a local branch when we just use the internet all the time anyway.

However, the separate Lloyds and BOS identities would be useful should we get near the £85k protected amounts

Contradictorally (is that a word?) the Lloyds TSB Branch on Exeter High Sreet used to be Lloyds (is an ex-Lloyds building, not ex-TSB building), but they use the TSB 77x range sort codes...

Err.. I don't think it's a de-merger. I think they are just dropping the "TSB" from the name. *rolleyes*

The last I heard the right to use the TSB name was also to be sold.

I used to have a savings account with TSB when I was a kid. And then a TSB cash card account when I got a little older just before they re-branded as Lloyds TSB.

I still have the old TSB passbook although I don't bank with Lloyds TSB anymore.

    Ah the days lol

I had a bank book with Trustee Savings Bank on it ...

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

Might be something to do with them adopting the TSB computer system when they first merged perhaps. E.g. all new accounts have TSB sort codes?

Halifax had around 550 branches in 2009. Prior to the EU's intervention. It was Lloyds intention to cull a considerable number, most likely to avoid duplication.

So a fair number of these could be part of the sell off along with branches which Lloyds considers non-core to its operations.

Sounds like the classic, take over a bank (merger) then sometime down the line after ripping off it's technology and cutting staff, drop the brand name and go back to the name they were with in the first place.

Is it just me or does anyone else see the irony in this.

I used to like TSB Bank, it was the first account my dad opened for me when I was born back in the 70's. As I got a little older I had one of those speedbank cards, and when I hit 14 I remember going into their branch in Birmingham City Centre, Temple Row, and asking for a cheque book account, as I had a interest in computers the guy who opened the account allowed me behind their counters and I got a tour of how their computer systems worked. At the time I remember thinking how great this bank was.

It was a good bank and it did have an excellent computer system, only real time on-line system of the day for a bank and included inter-branch accounts too within all of the UK (the building societies always had them as far as I know). Everyone else still worked on overnight batch runs and ledger accounts. I also had my first account there, it was opened by my Grandmother in 1973 and I got my speedbank card when I was 14 and then eventually a Bankcard (which was a big novelty at the time) when I started Uni in 1991.
