Lloyds TSB to change name!

I never used to like Lloyds Bank after in the early 1980's they seriously messed up my sisters account which they eventually had to appologise for.
Hence my Mortgage was taken out with the Leeds Permanent Building Society (remember them?). This them morphed into the Halifax, then guess who?
My current account was with the TSB which again became Lloyds (even more so when the TSB is dropped).
I also had a savings account with Cheltenham & Gloucester which again was taken over by guess who?.
So, my eforts not to give Lloyds my custom circa thirty years back eventually came to nought.

At least C&G is one of the companies being sold. So hopefully or not by 2014 the accounts will be in the hands of Santander.0 -
Lloyds initially wanted to combine Bank of Scotland with Lloyds TSB Scotland. They then agreed to sell Lloyds TSB Scotland, as part of their EU State aid agreement, including branches & its separate banking license.
Perhaps Airdrie Savings Bank - the only bank not to become part of TSB Scotland in the 80s - will want to reunite and buy Lloyds TSB Scotland?
quite frankly not a chance. ASB has an approach of opening one branch monitoring how it does over a year or two and then opening another. It is an extremely cautious bank and would not come anywhere near taking the risk0 -
A bit of tongue in cheek there
I didn't for one minute think they even had the funds to buy a bank several times their size...
Apparently LTSB Scotland has borrowed lots from LTSB, so de-tangling it might not be very easy.quite frankly not a chance. I have come across quite a number of people who still, even now, refer to Lloyds TSB as 'the TSB'.
I think it is a brand name that people still recognise and probably forms an important part of their name. I doubt they'd drop it if it weren't for the European Commission.
.
I think it may be a regional thing depending on what part of the country you live in. The further north the bigger the brand, particularly in Scotland.
I remember them well, had a savings account with them many years ago, but I always thought of them as one of those 'mickey mouse' style banks ala ShAbbey, A&L etc who were trying to keep up with the 4 bigger banks Midland, National Westminster, Barclays, Lloyds.
Incidentally I wonder how many still refer to HSBC as Midland ?0 -

fair enough. I would love for a return to th traditional TSB way of working. An honest bank that helps people save a little and offers good customer service. It doesn't have to be a big back. Just focussing on key areas in Scotland and I think a TSB could do really well again0 -

No, this is in south west England, and there are plenty of people here who call Lloyds TSB just 'TSB'.Incidentally I wonder how many still refer to HBOS as Midland ?
Not many, I'd imagine. Calling HSBC Midland ... now that's a different story0 -
Lloyds have rebranded their International Operations as Lloyds Bank, will give you a feel of how the UK operations will be branded:

Probably those with only a 77-xx-xx sort code.
I think they will copy what Barclays did with the Woolwich next...
Re-brand /close Halifax branches as Lloyds but keep it as a Mortgage brand.
Noooo!!! I have a 77-XX-XX sort code, and have just escaped Santander, please dont tell me Im going to have to close my account! :eek:Debt free and staying that way! :beer:0
