Lloyds initially wanted to combine Bank of Scotland with Lloyds TSB Scotland. They then agreed to sell Lloyds TSB Scotland, as part of their EU State aid agreement, including branches & its separate banking license.
Do you have a link to the announcement?

The old Halifax head office building has a giant LBG logo (black horse) above a giant Halifax logo.

I won't comment on what it looks like the horse is doing ;) .

    Yes, http://www.bankers-telenet.com/swift-sort-code, confirms that.
  • Lloyds wanted to merge with TSB due to the huge number of personal account customers it had. At merger, 70% of the new total merged personal accounts were from TSB. TSB also had slightly more branches than Lloyds - 3 Lloyds branches in Scortland v 195 TSB branches. TSB also had an on line real time computer system (you could pay in money and it could be instantly withdrawn by the time you went out to the Speedbank - ATM) which is the platform Lloyds TSB uses today. TSB also had a fully established credit card centre in Brighton for the Visa Trustcard. TSB also had regional sort codes. 77-91 for London, 77-30 for Surrey, 77-13 for Essex, 77-45 for Northern Ireland etc.
I am glad that TSB is demerging from Lloyds as Lloyds have only every been a taker from the merger. The new bank is likely to take all 77 TSB (87-xx-xx in Scotland) sort code accounts (which will suit Lloyds as they closed most TSB branches post merger and moved accounts over to Lloyds branches. The TSB brand is still very strong, I have banked with (Lloyds)TSB for over 20 years and I still refer to it as TSB and my branch is a (former) TSB branch. Several 77 sort codes are likely to be based in one branch (like when a TSB branch merged with another, so in London several branches (for example 77-91-22 Stratford and 77-91-11 Leytonstone) are likely to be in one location. 77-91-60 (Forest Gate) was merged with Stratford 77-91-22 branch in 1990.
And you have probably guessed, I worked for TSB until the early 90's.

Err.. I don't think it's a de-merger. I think they are just dropping the "TSB" from the name. *rolleyes*
