October 06 Grocery Challenge

Hi, I'm new!
I live on my own with 2 cats, but BF is over 3 days a week (incl weekends). I'm usually very generous with food ingredients, but this month I'm between jobs, so would like to reduce my grocery spend.
I shall budget £150 for October, that includes an organic box delivery of £10 per week. The delivery is on Tuesdays, meaning that I have £100 left to spend on other groceries, cat food and general household/toiletry items. This sounds both a lot, and not enough - based on my pre-summer spending diary, the average amount was £195 per month! Wish me luck...Cogito, ergo sum.0 -
Done my weekly shop... a day early I know.
Weekly shop including 2 small christmas presents £62-00 :T
Shop minus christmas presents was ... wait for it.... £50 :j
On My SOA for grocerys I had £400.00, So Im down on my weekly spend :beer:Head in the sand doesnt work......What doesnt kill you makes you stronger !!:T0 -
Count me in too!
2 Adults so £200 should be enough. One bonus is that I have full cupboards and freezer and still have some veg in the garden.
I can't believe I blew it last month but oh well.
Need to reduce the spending - my job ends on 4th October, nothing definite yet to pay the bills so it could get really tight.
AngelaThanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

I'm going to try again this month
Went overbudget way too early last month, but I did haul it back a bit this last two weeks.
My budget this month is £445 (that's what's available in the bank), the month runs from today until 31st October, and I've already spent approx. £35

I was almost £8 over last month. Am working on £45 this month (just me but boyfriend and I eat at each others' houses alternate nights....he eats more than me!). Also, could be a struggle as I'm on clinical placement and have to work and study part-time .... so I'm already anticipating lots of convenience food. After all, if I'm working full-time, working part-time and studying part-time something has to give and home-cooking is going to be one of them! So not sure I'll make my challenge for the next 10 weeks!0

Hi everyone - you're all inspiring me to get my butt in gear and actually DO something about my household budget.
My current weekly spend is...have no idea, haven't kept track for years.
There is just me in the house, and two kitties who like their grub. So, I think I will be gentle to start off and budget £40 per week. This is for normal grocery shopping and will include petrol, cat litter and treats eg a newspaper, bottle of wine and such. I think I will use the separate purse method as well - ie put £40 into a special household wallet and use that to hold the receipts as I spend.
I am quite good at cooking from scratch, but not so good at looking at what is in the cupboards and freezer before going shopping. That's something else I'll try and improve on.
I am anticipating a big drop in monthly income. That is a scary thought, but it doesn't have to be a disaster.
I'll start this challenge tomorrow - at £40 per week that works out at £177 for the whole month. Generous compared to some budgets already mentioned, but for me it is....Gulp!0 -
I've just added up my receipts from September and they came to £395.82, thats for 3 adults, 1 teenager and 1 dog. I'm going to try and knock £20.00 of Octobers budget, it would be easier if my OH didn't come shopping with me as he is forever picking up extras but I am disabled and need his help. I'll have to keep more of an eye on him I think.Real stupidity beats artificial intelligence every time.

Just done our first weeks shop online at tescos inc cleaning products, BOGOFs and using an e coupon (extra points) :T Total before bogofs taken into account £92.45
Will have to cut back on the rest of the month as I want to save more money on this months challenge than last months :rotfl:
Last months savings went on repairing the fridge/freezer this months savings will probably have to be spent on a new tumble dryer A rated energy saving of course :doh:MFiT Member No 85

Going to try this for the first time in October. We used to manage a months food and toiletries, household items for around £200 for the two of us, but it's been creeping up and up over the past year to around £250 a month. We've got a baby on the way so I'm starting now with good intentions, and hopefully we can reduce our frivolous habits! I've done my meal planner for the month and hopefully we'll come in around £200 which will be a good start.January Grocery Challenge: £200 Spend £158.99
