  • io think i made the mistake of trying to run before i could wak last month. It was my first month and i total guessed what i was spending so set a budget of £170 a week but that includes everything, pocket money for hubby and kids, dinner money, car boot spends, food mags, stamps etc. I will don it properlly this month and keep recipts and make a note on the market saturday morning, we only use 3 stalls so it wont be too hard, salad, fruit & veg, we worked out a long time ago these might not be the three cheapest stalls on the market but we get good quality stuff that lasts and going so early we get really good quality stuff.
I need to get a run to aldi sorted before i do my main shop so i can get some stuff there cheaper before i go into tesco.

I am now baking cakes and cereal bars instead of buying ready made junk so thats much better all round.

but generally must try harder this month.

OK. After last month's debacle I'm going to play it safe this month.

£300 again - but this is only a 4 week month for us.

    We shall see.

Once I can achieve this I'll look at getting it down further.

  • I'm in again! Only went slightly over last month so sticking to £140 for next 4 wks for 2 adults, 2 kids and piggy cat.

Bit worried that I used up a lot of my storecupboard stash last month, tho. Did make masses of plum jam, freeze loads of rhubarb, blackberries (feel crumble coming on) and HM pasta sauces, so might just have to get a bit inventive with these. ;)

  • Definitely in again this month. Only went over my £200 budget last month by a fiver but it was difficult. Didn't do my initial calculations properly as I counted last month as a five week month so that had dropped my budget to £40 per week (in August I budgeted for £50 pw) and my 'big shop' at the beginning of last month meant I had to be very frugal to stay in budget and in this last week have stayed away from the supermarkets in order to make it anywhere near the target.

This month I'm aiming for £45 per week for two adults, two young men and the dog giving me a monthly total of £180. I've learnt my lesson though and will try to spend as little as possible at the beginning of this month so that I don't run out of money again towards the end.

Homework tonight for me is to meal plan for next week hopefully with the stuff that's already in so I don't have a 'big shop' just yet.

    Good luck everybody for October.
