ARGH I effing hate Health Visitors. I took Jake to be weighed and ask them about his sore mouth, HV said it might be thrush and asked me if I breastfeed because if I do I need treating for it too. I said I don't directly breastfeed but express milk for him twice a day and the rest of the time he gets formula. Immediately I got the worst dirty look EVER and she said, she actually said not to bother. She said as soon as I gave him formula I "ruined" his immunity and there was no point expressing if only two of his feeds were going to be breast milk. This is without knowing any of our history, I've never seen her before so she doesn't know about me, my pregnancy, the birth or afterwards. I was getting quite tearful by this point, so tried explaining to her that I'm diabetic, he was premature and had to be tube fed, and he had low blood sugars so had to be fed a measured amount every two hours and he was physically too weak to breastfeed - even now with bottles I have to really work at getting him to suck. Her exact words were "yes yes, I'm sure it was very difficult." really dismissively, and then just said to make an appointment with the doctor for the thrush. Luckily a friend was there to calm me down or I would have smacked the b***h. So I stormed out (well as best I could with two kids in tow) in floods of tears, and now I have to go back in 40 mins to see the doctor.
And now I feel awful. I feel like I'm useless for not even be able to feed my own baby. I thought I was doing the best by him but obviously not.
Sorry, needed to rant. Need to sort my face out now before I have to go back. So, there are these boys,
They kinda stole my heart,
They call me Mummy

Hellyboo hey, I know s0d all about babies, but it's obvious to me that you did the very best for Jake, given all the circumstances.
Ignore the woman; she doesn't know you, she clearly didn't take in what you said, and has her own little script all rehearsed, regardless of what her victim's circumstances are.
Chin up, mate, you're doing a grand job.:oIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -

Any breastmilk is better than no breastmilk hun, all u r doing is topping up his feeds with formula which I was always told was fine. I breastfed all 3 of my children, I tried ever so hard with DD2 but in the end she wasnt putting on weight and needed topping up with formula, she then started gaining weight and went straight back onto her birth centile! U r doing a fab job, don't let her get u down. I personally would contact someone about her as her talking to u like that is completely out of order and extremely unproffesional. She is supposed to help u, not make u feel like that! Love and hugs for u hun xxx

Helly boo
I remember when my DS was tiny. My HV was fab! I couldn't breastfeed (hideous emergency c section/infection/very ill) anyway i worried about it and she was very reassuring. In fact she often told mums who were struggling with breastfeeding 'Better to have a bottle fed baby than a screaming hungry breast feeding (or not) baby thrown at a wall!! She was oldskool and whilst that comment was over the top I saw what she meant.
On a visit to the clinic I saw another HV. My son had oral thrush and she said 'Well you can't be sterilising the bottles properly' I was devastated. They just don't realise how personally you can take such comments.
Anyway my son now 9 is a strapping lad and whatever I did, he survived!!!!
Don't let the !!!!!!s get you down.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Hellyboo - stuff her!! Go back and tell her xx_Jo_xx didnt breast feed at all!!! See what shes got to say about that! WITCH!
It is absolutely NOTHING to do with anyone else what you feed or dont feed your baby! He is mighty fine and you are doing a grand job! Breastfeeding is a personal choice, some people choose to and cant anyway and some people choose to do some by breatsfeeding and some by other means..... How is any of that ANY of her BLEEDING BUSINESS???????
Ignore the stupid lady with no brains and hug your babies..... xxx

Can I ask all flyladies to send a collective surge of energy, light and goodwill to our Toots. She is always considerate, kind and inclusive and I think needs a little boost at the mo. Toots hun, given what you deal with you just just moan away sweetheart, swear, shout, have a right proper tantrum, get it out of your system any which way you can, if you can.
If you can't well thats ok too, just keep on getting up and doing your day,THAT in itself is a victory.:kisses3:

Evening  DD and I had a fab time at Loughborough, and she screen-printed a t-shirt
Great art department, but as we live in a tiny place she's worried it may not be exciting enough for her
Think she's going to apply and see what happens :T
Mahooosive hugs for Toots :A You are very special to this thread, so please take care of yourself and cross off 75% of your list
