On several previous occasions Hamish has brought up these statistics about the supposedly loaded nature of immigrants & been thoroughly clobbered on it only to regurgitate them a few weeks later. It will happen again hence the lack of detail below.
In a nutshell he conveniently overlooks the fact that the lion's share of new immigrants are from Pakistan, Somalia [alongside Bangladeshis very easily the poorest major ethnic groups of all UK citizens], and possibly India & that data on the average income of all the UK's immigrants population is hugely skewed upwards by a few specific high-earning groups the likes of which we're highly unlikely to see moving in again.FACT.0 -

Surely they all need some place to live though.
If they don't buy, they must be renting.
Anecdotal, but I have an Indian and a Pakastani colleagues who earn well above the UK average.
I also know a couple of Nigerain managers in Sourcing and Contracts who earn higher than average.
I've seen a number of Doctors and Surgeons who were immigrants into our country.
Conversely, I've also seen low skill immigrants working for minimum wage.:wall:

Looks like we will have a lot more homeless people in the future then!0

Looks like we will have a lot more homeless people in the future then!
Or a lot more people sharing houses.....
Which of course raises average household income.
Which supports higher rents, and then house prices.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

Interesting how that massive demographic spike didn't stop house prices tanking in 2007/2008.
And indeed hasn't stopped them stagnating, and now it appears falling again.
Just...y'know, interesting.0 -

Surely you have seen the programmes on the TV about how many of these people live?
Often 4 are sleeping on a single bedroom floor. This is in the middle of london. They do this and send money back home for their family and children.
Let's not pretend most of these immigrants are going to arrive with deposits ready for their 2-3 bed homes to live in each.
There is a big difference between immigrants coming here to chase professional jobs, many of whom I come into contact with, and immigrants who are coming here to escape a bad life. Only those coming here to chase professional jobs will be able to afford homes to themselves.0 -

I have and I don't condone it.
I once had an Iranian in 2004 that wanted to rent my flat and asked if I could put several more beds in the bedrooms and living room for his "family"
I politely declined the offer as I did not want to be part of the 'hot bed' / multiple occupance racket.Graham_Devon wrote: »Let's not pretend most of these immigrants are going to arrive with deposits ready for their 2-3 bed homes to live in each.
Lol is it always extremes with you.
Some will come over and never be able to buy, often sharing rental properties.
Some come over and educated themselves, getting a degree and renting before getting a good paid job.
Then they end up owners.
As I've said, I've seen multiple 'third world' nationalities that have come to the UK, done well for rhemselves and now own above average properties after they have suceeded.Graham_Devon wrote: »There is a big difference between immigrants coming here to chase professional jobs, many of whom I come into contact with, and immigrants who are coming here to escape a bad life. Not denying that, my point was simply that they would need property of some sort either to own or to rent:wall:

To be fair, you quoted a paragraph, and told me pretty much exactly what I had said in my following paragraph. So hardly extremes. Just clever quoting to cut at a point you could make a point.
The immigration figures are always used in terms of total immigration = total extra houses needed. This isn't the case, and never ill be, precisely because of what we both pointed out.0 -

Very true, sentiment plays a huge part in correlating to how much competition there is for properties.
Caution in the market will make people hold off and wait until there are better times.
One thing for sure though, if property expansion does not match population expansion it can only be worse for non owners in the future.:wall:

No, I said they needed property to rent or buy.
You made the quote that their not all coming over here with huge deposits to only buy disregarding the rent option
P.s. I quoted your whole post, just broke it up into individual responses.:wall:
