Old Style Daily Thread; Sunday 12 September

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for xx (add date). This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Good morning  Just catching up with DH in China, then I'm going to try and get more sleep

I'm out this afternoon, and DD is working tonight, so the children and I are cooking lunch of slow roast belly of pork with HG roots, and HG apple crumble. We have a good harvest of beetroot - has anyone tried that in roasted roots?
Strictly was good :j Can't wait to see Ann Widdecombe dance
A very happy birthday to Mrs Mix :bdaycake:
Have a great Old Style day, everyone!

Good morning Penelope Penguin and all who follow :j
Interesting that Mooloo gave me some beetroot yesterday, which I love, and I need a recipe for roasted beetroot as doing Roast Chicken dinner tonight for when DD gets back from work. Any suggestions?
I had a busy day yesterday and then slept for 3 hours in the afternoon so didnt get all my OS stuff done. I have a list as long as my leg today so hopefully I will make some progress. It includes sorting my dining room so we can eat dinner, donating my old midwifery equipment (heart renching but necessary), baking some buns and making a lemon trifle. Kids dad is doing the ironing which is horrendous as we have just caught up on the washing from holiday.
Well off for another cuppa. Have a peaceful day xxI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.

I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.

Hya Penelopepenguin, Molly41 and all to follow,
Made 2 pressure cookers full of tomato puree yesterday which took hours to reduce down. Used some for the Ragu sauce & pasta for dinner. The dgsons commented on the difference of yesterday's saucewhich we put down to not using tinned tomatoes. These were the outdoor tomatoes, we've got to get the next lot from the polytunnel today.
Today we will use some of it to make "beef better than roast" which we will have with hm Yorkshire, hg runner beans and potatoes. Must check the beetroots to see if there are some ready for the oven. Hope there's a good recipe out there somewhere.
Got a lovely piece of beef from Sainsbugs too big for the 7 of us to eat in one sitting, so will halve it and freeze some for another day.
Looks like it will be a good drying day so wm is on atm.
Must go and shower and brush the tooth,
Hugs & prayers to all who need them, Happy Sunday,
Cheers m'dears x0 -
Morning all
It's a beautiful sunny day here so far, I shall start the WM later & hopefully get it dry on the line, can't put it on yet as we have guests & they don't normally get up till around 10ish.
After that I will be cooking more stuff with apples & putting zips in cushions, which is a paid job.
We have roast lamb for dinner with HG pots & beans.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning penelopepenguin & everyone else
Rained in the night, but dry-ish & a bit sunny at the moment. Been up for an hour with baby - she seems to get up really early on Sundays, but not until about 7 the rest of the week?
Working today, but in & amongst I need to finish the ironing, clean the bathroomand try to clear enough space in the dining room to start making Christmas cards.
Tea is FR chicken (which has to stretch to another couple of meals afterwards), HG spuds, whatever veg is in the fridge, Yorks, stuffing & gravy.
OS-wise, will go picking more blackberries if it doesn't rain too much.
Off to change very smelly baby & get another cuppa to keep me awake! :rotfl:
See you all later, have a lovely Sunday morning (esp if you're lucky enough to NOT be up yet!:D)
Hugs & kisses to all,

Morning all
It's a beautiful morning heresunny but very crisp. It's very peaceful at the moment too.
I wish I could do lie-ins, I really do. I hate waking up the same time on weekends as I do for work. Hopefully I can have a lie-in or 2 week after next when I'm off.
Today I hope to list a million items on Ebay. If it stays nice then I'll go for a walk by the sea, or maybe take the car to the country park with a picnic. The grand prix is on so I'll watch that first then go out. I did contemplate going to the local car boot this morning for a browse but I really do not need to be spending money on little bits that are non essential so won't go!
OS wise - need to hoover and put away yesterdays laundry. My main meal will be stuffed peppers, roasted new pots and veg, it will either be lunch or tea depending on what I get up to.
Have great day all

Morning All. Beautiful here too. WM on with bits from DS and DGD at the moment - our own clothes will have to wait until later. Need to change our sheets too, but DH still in the land of Nod. Expecting DGD to surface shortly. Have swept the hall and living room floors and put away dishes from yesterday. Roast beef for lunch (not my favourite, but request from DS) That means cottage pie tomorrow I suppose - unless anyone has a more exciting suggestion??
Driving DGD home this afternoon, which will doubtless make DS very depressed again.
Hoping that our lives will get back on a more even keel this week.
Began stitching together the squares for DGD's blanket yesterday. After the 3rd time of stitching squares together with one on the wrong side I gave up completely! Need to unpick that one before doing any more, but my heart was just not in it. So at the moment I have a "scarf" of 6 squares plus 2 fof the next row (one of which has to be pulled out!) Anyone confident that it'll be on the bed for her next visit at half term? Or do you think t'll still be in the carrier bag of loose squares??? DH is clearly expecting it to be put in the cupboards that are full of half-finished projects!
Need to get in the garden and pick the last green tomatoes and put them on the windowsill to ripen. The plant is definitely ready for the compost heap - as are the runner bean plants I think.
Oh well, off to peel the potatoes before I shower and get ready for church.
Hope you all have a good day.Resolution:

Good morning my lovelies
Had a lovely night with my friend - nothing like a good natter is there :rotfl: Had Chicken Wellington at the pub - very nice and fillingIf only H would eat pastry etc then I'd have a go doing it myself.
Plans for today are to go swimming. put the vac round, tidy up the back patio (again.), visit my mum and dad with the kids whilst H attempts Mount IronI fancy getting some more blackberries if I get chance.
It's lovely and sunny here at the moment albeit heavy dew and quite crisp. Washed bed sheets yesterday so might hang these out today.
We really enjoyed the childrens farm yesterday, kids liked feeding the animals and the play area. I enjoyed cuddling a bunnyBrings it home to me how much I miss having a pet.
Anyway not caught up with yesterdays thread so hugs where needed. Have a lovely Sunday OS or not.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

I was going to ask that too, itching to know :rotfl:
Beemuzed, I like to put any left over bits of beef in a giant yorkshire with some lovely gravy :T
Morning all,
Bright and beautiful here today, I have the bed stripped, and after the talk of bed bugs yesterday I took the matress protector off and have it all on a hot wash, I also have an old duvet which we have under the matress protector, for extra warmth and comfort, which I have on the line getting an airing, luckily no sign of any bugs.
Took a load of washing to the laundrette to dry yesterday, it had partially dried on the line, but then the rain started again, so took it there, cost me £1 to get it all dried, and I must say it was nice getting it home and away, without it hanging around (I dont do ironing)
We also went to Lidl yesterday, OH bought himself 2 pairs of shoes, one hiking boots and one trainer converse type, he said they are so comfortable that he would like to grab another pair of each, the were £14 for the boots and £7 for the trainer, worth a look if you need either.
I bought a stiff broom for outside for £4!! a pillow for the spare room £5, and a spare duvet set for the spare room £7, so a good few bargains :T, we also went to a local sadlery and got some stuff for to treat the sofa, so will have to do that tomorrow.
Roast lamb for OH and I today with roasties and HG veg, dd is out with her father so will just want a snack tonight.
I need to get out in the garden and pick all the runners and freeze them, I also have a mountain of green toms, but was going to leave mine for another week or so to see if they ripen.
Going to have a look at the boot sale later on, and then take little dog out for her run, and see if I can get some blackerrys, nd maybe a few apples
Have good days all,
and Happy Birthday Mrs Mix :bdaycake:0 -
