The one in Covent Garden isn't too clever. My company used it quite a lot for business travel but had to stopdue to the number of complaints coming back. In the main they related to dirty bathrooms and bedlinen0

I stayed at the Waterloo lodge in July - lovely and new but my god, SO HOT. They have no air con there, the rooms were literally like saunas - cant open the windows and they give you a tiny fan if you ask at reception. I had two fans and still couldnt sleep. People were complaining all the time about it because it was draining and this wasnt at the hottest time of the summer either (one chap told me he left his shower running cold all night just to get some air in the room). It may be ok now that the summer is virtually over, but wouldnt count on it as the 8th floor was the absolute worse apparently (temps of over 30 recorded in the rooms) and I was only on the second! Staff had perspiration running down their faces as they cleaned the corridors.
Southwark has air con and may be a better bet.0 -
We stayed at Tower Bridge in April and it was lovely, nicest travelodge I've stayed in and I've been to a few!0

Never, ever, ever stay at the Kings Cross Royal Scot. Disgusting hotel Nasty and old. Stayed there cause it was cheap - never again. Friends reported plastic bags over smoke alarms. Horrible place.0

There are 2 in Covent Garden and i think they use the older one for business stays. As i said before we have always stayed in the newer one and always found it really clean.0 -

King Cross Royal Scot - the hotel isn't clean but the rooms were and they were fine.
Waterloo is hellish hot. Fire alarm went off at 6 in the morning too but I expect that was because it was so hot not because there was actual fire.0 -
I have stayed in quite a few in London including the Covent Garden one. For Covent Garden (one of the few to have proper twin beds) ask to stay in the red building site just across the road from the 4th floor upwards. The lower floors especially the 2nd haven't been refurbished and are mainly used for one night stays so takes a bit of a beating. The 4th floor upwards have been done up and whilst still not the Ritz are clean, comfortable and perfectly adequate.
I would also recomend the Marlyebone location which is just across the the train station and near Oxford st and Wax works. Also I bit further out but recently refurbished is the Tower Hill/London Bridge Travel Lodge which I stayed in last month for a week. Really handy for the Towerhill Tube and Tower Gateway DLR. There are quite a few nice places to eat there as well so no need to hop into town.
Liverpool street was okay but not as nice as the others I have listed above. There was some shops and places to eat nearby.
From the benefit of my experience I would never return to London Docklands - too out of the way and a very lonely walk back to the hotel and Kings Cross Royal Scot which was dirty and has tiny rooms.

Southwark is a good one as fairly new, with an air conditioning unit on the wall of the rooms. 2 mins walk from Southwark Tube station and about 10 minutes walk from there to Waterloo for the Eye, London Aquarium Embankment, Houses of Parliament, Big Ben etc. Imperial War Museum nearby too. Boats go from the Embankment to the Tower if you fancy a change from the tubes or buses.
+1. I was very happy with my stay there back in February.0 -
The Travel Lodge at London marylebone is literally next to the station which is useful for mainline & tube connections.
Theres a few little street cafes nearby for breakfast too.0
