The people who'll be near the high speed rail link are still looking to get top prices paid for their homes - a scandalous waste of tax payers money if you ask me - but on that principal the OP should speak to their MP.

    Hi,

There was no planning application because it was previously being used as a community arts centre and there was no need to declare change of use.
Just returning to the planning issues!

A community arts centre would fall under Use Class D1 (a non-residential institution). Other D1 uses include clinics, health centres, crèches, day nurseries, day centres, schools, art galleries, museums, libraries, halls, places of worship, church halls, law courts, non residential education and training centres.

Therefore if no planning application was submitted, the 'new' use must also fall within Use Class D1 - therefore it cannot be for a residential use. It must be for a day centre for the types of people you describe.

Also, to answer your question - no, you cannot sue anyone or any organisation for loss of value of your property.

Strange that I have been approached with a view to put my property up for a commercial sale by a company wishing to build residential flats on the plot my house occupies to service the activities of domestic, drug and alcohol abuse on the premises across the road from me.

A duplicitous, disingenuous local authority...whoever would have thought.

    Where is this building?

I am going to sue the government as there is a police station near my road and all sorts of undesirables are coming and going at all hours. not only is it devaluing the house, but also my car!

how do you think I'll get on? ;)

My apologies for the reference, but your rather smug observation to a genuine question did nothing by way of practical advice serving only to satisfy your ego by playing to the forum gallery.

Mental illness is more common in the community than you think, use of the term loony bin is not nice. In fact you yourself are lowering the value with your discrimination slurs. Personally I think you need to read the diaries of George Orwell, may be it will open your eyes.

Property prices are falling anyway and will continue too. The four security cameras however will be a significant deterrent on crime in your close area.

I do apologise for any offence caused

You might have them for 'maladministration' with teh ombudsman if you were not given the correct information at the time to object o ri fyou turned down an offer because you were assured by telephone by a named member fo council staff that no such planning application was beign sought, after the time the first documetn they have proves they were aware fo it.

The refurbishment of the premises has been funded by a bid application put to regional government. I have asked to see a copy of the bid document as this will go a long way to clarifying the extent of activities that will be undertaken....can't get a squeak out of the local council though, so I have approached my MP to try and get things going.

Agree with Brit, "looney bin" is tremendously offensive.

Mental illness might come for you or someone close to you one day. I hope the local community supports your health and recovery instead of petty nimbyism generated by the hearsay of an estate agent!

Some people on here may find it easy to think of my concerns as mere nimbyism. I was born into the community I still live in, some 62 years. All around me old terrace houses have been flattened to build 'social housing' to the point where very few people feel safe venturing out at night. The same area where I could roam as a child 'til all hours of the day and night. Even a couple of years ago I would never dream of leaving the community I love in spite of how it had changed, but sometimes you have to say enough is enough. The property I now live in was to become the nest egg for my, and my disabled wife to enjoy the time that's left to us. To see a valuation put on my house that is £40,000 less than 2 years ago is galling to say the least.
  • dont know if this helps, but when a battered fish and chip shop opened over the road, the value dropped by 10%. I am not sure if the fish were suffering from drug addiction but there were deffo hiding from fisherman.
